How often do you replace your blades?
Anonymous
7/17/2025, 8:28:36 PM No.105939103
I broke my $10 merkur futur clone after dropping it, the blade wouldn't sit flush anymore and I accidentally broke the detente that keeps you from unscrewing it completely when I tried to fix it, so I just bought another one, 10/10 shaving experience tho, would buy again.

I keep it on the most aggressive setting with astra blades and throw them out after 3-4 uses when they're not slicing through 2 day old stubble like butter.
I don't even use shaving cream, it would get in the way when exfoliating my face with the razor, it goes through leg hair like a dream desu

Feathers are legitimately the worst blade you can buy, they're stupidly sharp because they're designed for their very mild non-adjustable razor lineup so you won't cut yourself, these shits will slice your shit open with a real adjustable and take at least 2 uses before they get dulled enough to be used comfortably, that's a shit blade.

i have a chinkshit version of the philips rotary shavers.
works great.
I had a cheap Braun that was terrible first of all, followed by a Remington travel shaver which was fine but just didn't last long.

now i grow somewhat decent facial hair none of the previous shavers would have cut it as the pop-up trimmer is essential for lining up mustache and thinning out beard.

Roughly the difference is you need less pressure to shave. Other difference is that you can shave a full beard/sideburns with these relatively easily compared to multi blade setup.

Interesting. Never occurred to me to do that. I've always just relied on a straight razor if I want to just slice off a bunch of hair in one go. Nothing beats a raw blade for not getting clogged up.

I do also have some hipster safety razor with multiple guards so you can change how wide open it is, but none of them work as well as my basic bitch merkur or whatever.

I'd thought I just cut my face at first but it feels better than regular razors and I'm using the cheapest shit ever.

That is a common one and quite good. A bit aggressive but too its benefit. You can just get a sample pack of razor blades to find out what works best for it. Beard/hair type and prep(washing face first or shower) makes the largest difference.

The soap is more for comfort of the shave but you have a massive variety and the parker brushes are OK. Wilkinson sword sells the rebrand of that razor and good razor blades for the price of 6$

The shave soaps last between 6-8 months which adds in the cost savings compared to shitty canned foam that shrinks every year.

Not sure who started it, but at some point some razor company figured out that making plastic razors is cheaper. So to get people to use them they ran marketing campaigns claiming that plastic razors with multiple blades are better under the pretense that this way you only need to do 1 pass. Which caused the competition to adopt the same methods and then they kept trying to one up each other to see who could get more blades on a single razor.
Funny enough multiple blades is arguably much worse because if the first blade is dull it will pull the hair while the second blade cuts it, leaving you with an ingrown hair.

I have to wonder if all DE blades you can find are ancient new old stock, some from companies that aren't even in business anymore.
Even if you throw out blades after 4 uses, a 100 pack will still last you years, $14 per customer every few years is an incredibly low volume industry.

Buy a sampler pack. Most razor blades will work with your razor. Shitloads of brands and just as many manufactures.

If that's the case why wouldn't you buy the cheapest blades you can?

I use one of those meme Henson razors with feather blades and it's far superior to the previous Merkur razor I had
Highly recommend
