i prefer it. i also watch/play a lot of old media that's in 4:3 and it would be nice to be able to fullscreen it without black borders on the sides.

I don't have a problem with them, I just want a laptop specifically for content that fits its screen. I guess I do have a problem with how that is to find.

Microsoft's Surface Laptops have 3:2 displays. That's probably as close as you're gonna get.

Why 4:3 and not 3:2?

Why not both? Why not 1:1?

Closest you can get in a modern context is a 13" iPad Pro with a Magic Keyboard. But that's not really a traditional laptop and is more of a glorified Chromebook.

Widescreen makes sense in a desktop context because it gives you lots of space but on a laptop it's pretty stupid. Most of what you do on a computer is vertical, 4:3 is the best aspect ratio for smaller, more portable screens such as on laptops for both fullscreen activity and maximized and restored windows. I hate that 16:9 became practically universal for everything. Different contexts deserve different aspect ratios, 16:9 isn't perfect for everything.

Widescreen gives you space for good speakers

Laptop speakers are irrelevant since they are always terrible no matter what. But even then, those grills are fake. The speakers are actually tiny. You can hide them under the keyboard without affecting sound quality at all.

Framework laptop 13 is 3:2
