We could just do all this through software but the poorfags are going to cry about it. Either encoding takes 10X longer than JPG/H264 or battery life will be dogshit.
I mean when you stop and think about it hardware acceleration is the beating heart and soul of the JPG zombie today. Or did you really think phone processors are capable of taking 50 megapixel JPG images in 0.1 seconds?
We already have crude $10,000 hardware accelerators for AVIF btw. All they have to do now is cram them into phones.
