He’s 100% right, people looking for investors are always welfare Queens wanting an ipo or a buyout. No one wants to build a lifetime business anymore

He is right. The trick is to become successful organically, then have the greedy VCs try to approach you after to offer you money, then you create the opportunity to fuck with the VCs like they fuck with others, and then deny them and laugh at them.
VCs just want to swoop in and fuck everything up, you should measure success by being able to see them coming and make them seethe.
Gabe is finance-phobic of course he doesn’t believe in taking VC money, he doesn’t believe in borrowing period and has a cash cow to lean on, of course that model works for him. Im sure if everyone stopped making games outside steam to compete with him and were forced to work with valve directly to get anything to market he would be thrilled, old school Microsoft through and through.
This is completely observable in the negative press events valve has had, one day they will fuck up hard and will not have the necessary infrastructure to survive, it will gut them.

why should startup founder reject free money? Its just scammers scamming each other and then scamming the public while the bubble keeps growing and society degrades.

Such as? Literally no one will fund your startup expecting absolutely nothing in return.
The calculation you need to do is if you can use the money to actually increase the revenue or not.
Gaben was already rich from working at Microshaft at the right time. So he was able to risk his own money on his company, which almost went bust twice. His experience says nothing about VCs one way or the other.

It's not exactly a unique opinion. VC is just banks and universities gambling with peoples' retirement funds, and mostly losing money. They'd all be hanged if they were doing it with hard currency.

Sure let me dip into my $900,000,000/mo mountain of cash that I get from leeching off other people’s work. I’ll just compete with multibillion dollar tech corporations from my basement like a good goy who doesn’t know when a ladder is being pulled up in front of him.
