Cinnamon is ugly and there's no Plasma edition. Otherwise, it's okay, but recommending it as a "beginner distro" is no longer necessary because there's no such thing as a "beginner distro" anymore; nowadays, you just have good distros which a newcomer can and should commit to.

Personally I think Cinnamon is quite handsome - not too pretentious, pretty damn customizable, and the themes can be nice. still BTFOs base GNOME and Windows.

Pretty much anything that isn't Canonical or the vanilla codecless Fedora. Most Linuxes are 95% the same; these days it's less about recommending specific distros but advising AGAINST specific distros.

I think some people here have used Linux so long they forgot how bad it is out there. If you show the level of customizability Mint/Cinnamon has to a Windows user, their mind is fucking blown. Modern Windows doesn't even let you change the fucking mouse pointer without third party programs.

Pretty good, honestly. I think most people recognize that Mint is really good for most people, not that its the absolute king of things like customization (that's for Arch), but it provides the smoothest experience for the largest number of people.
Have I had issues? Yes, but nothing that broke me, just small issues, and many of them were fixed via adding some addon. My largest issue was needing to download KDocker to force certain applications (like Betterbird) to the system tray without leaving a taskbar icon.

I use it and I'm fine, but it's a 10 year old mac that I'm using it on. If/when I can actually afford a new computer I may revisit using mint because of maybe needing newer shit but I've liked mint.

kek this is true but I still use it cause I like the Windows-like UI. Cinnamon, Xfce and Lxqt also have that UI layout but I just stick with KDE cause theres no hoops to jump through for thumbnails in file picker

Although Lxqt does have thumbnails in file picker, it doesn't have window preview in taskbar and grouped/stacked windows in taskbar, at least not without some sort of extension (hoops to jump through). Same goes for xfce I think.

Xfce has the functionality of Windows 95 with the appearance of a fake OS from a cartoon. Call me when you can pin applications to the taskbar, and I mean the ACTUAL taskbar; not a separate fucking "Quick Launch" panel.
