I am moving out of my parents house for the first time in my life. I would like to furniture the living room with a big chill couch, small couch table and a wooden board with a music system instead of a TV, so if a girl comes over we can chill on the couch, talk and listen to music.
Now my question. Should I invest in an expensive HiFi system, like 3-4K or is a budget system sufficient, like 2K?

I actually also hate expensive audiophile shit. My budget is 2K, all I need is a network amp with streaming, a cd player and 2 bookshelf speakers.
Does it even make sense to go more expensive if you are not an audiophile? I just need a music system to listen to in the background and chill, nothing more.

Buy used from a local record store. She won’t know the brand and, most importantly, you’ll only pay $100 max for the entire setup. my sound system was one of these logitech speaker subwoofer kits that i got as a hand me down from my dad for a decade until it died, then i ripped the innards out and adapted it to work with a chinese class D amplifier board

Isn't 2K kind of a good budget for a hifi system? I feel like much more and you go into very big diminishing returns and snake oil. However, anything less gives you worse sound, quality and features.
