Hey /g/ I am trying to recover a bunch of data off a hard drive that stopped working. does anyone know of software to help with this task.
I've got like 500 gbs of movies/games I've collected over the years and I really don't want to have to track everything down again while I still have the hard-drive.
Thanks for the help.

Thank you. I'll give it a go
I should mention that the harddrive doesn't even show up in bios anymore either, so will this still work?

What kind of drive is it? If it's NVME, did you recently install any new devices that might have changed up your utilized PCI lanes, can you try a different slot?

I've been using ti for about a month but didn't add any other hardware components to the PC recently
It is a SSD 2.5 Sata drive

Cool, at the very least try another SATA port. Otherwise, it's probably fucked mate.

I also noticed before it stopped work, the last thing I tried to launch(A game on steam) thought there was no executable, which is when I noticed it didnt show up in file explorer anymore

you can download this again easily, nothing of value was actually lost then, i don't thing it's worth trying to recover it, at this point you need professionals to do a real diagnosis and to desolder things, etc

You are a retard for not having backups of data you value. Backups are not a meme. If you aren't fine with losing something then you need backups. Hope you learnt your lesson

You gotta make backups bro
It doesn't have to be some complicated/expensive software

I backup to rsync.net using a tool called Borg
Less than $20 a month, and it's saved my ass several times

You could also buy two drives and backup locally

try a data recovery comapny at that point if you really value something on there. drivesavers.com has a pretty good NDA and Confidentiality but can never fully trust people so always keep that in mind if there's anything that's sketchy on there. movies and games will be fine though.
