Most of these are like 16-32GB or maybe 128-256GB drives, they just edit the partition information to be 256TB. If you write more than what is actually available data becomes overwritten and the oldest data corrupted.

Yes if you plug it into a PC, Windows or Linux or Mac it will report 256TB but it's not usable.

Anything over 500gb is going to be hacked to show some outrageously high number, but if you put more than 500gb of stuff in there, it overwrites the stuff you previously put in there.

there's no theoretical limit, you could have a yottabyte one if you knew how to mod the firmware on these things

Anonymous No.105971323 [Report]
>>105969931
yes, you can actually do this
there's a little problem tho
>Find out it's only 1tb
if you are extremely lucky, you'll find out it's... 8 gigs, at best.
you'll never get anywhere close to the claimed capacity, most are just 2 or 4 gb
and sure, if you repartition it correctly or maybe somehow edit the firmware on it after running H2testw to find the real capacity you'll end up with a perfectly working 4 gb sd card for free... but what's the point?
you now wasted a bunch of time to get a 4 (maybe 8 if extremely lucky) usb stick or sd card that's of very sketchy quality/reliability when you could've bought a legit one for like... 2$? very stupid indeed
>Do this 256x times
that's a very quick way to get banned permanently from aliexpress, it doesn't matter if you are technically right and they should stop selling counterfeit shit goods that don't do what's advertised, their alghorithm doesn't care.

You can often find the manufacturers flash utilities they use at the factory by searching the controller part number

https://usb-fix.blogspot.com/p/sss_03.html
They allow you to change the programmed flash size, name, and low level format.
I used one once to fix an old 4gb drive by low level formatting
