RTX 50 Super specs: 5070 Ti Super 24GB, 5080 Super 24GB, 5070 Super 18GB

>Omissions
RTX 5070 Ti: buy if you need CUDA, if you value DLSS/Reflex that highly, and if the 5060 Ti 16GB or 5070 isn't performant enough.
RTX 5070: buy if it's reasonably priced & if you plan to work around potential VRAM bottlenecks.
RX 9070 non-XT: worth considering if it's significantly cheaper than the 9070 XT.

>Product Notice
AOC Q27G40XMN: nice budget 1440p miniLED monitor but inconsistent QC.
Bad one causes DisplayHDR setting to look overbrightened and desaturated when applying the best local dimming option.

Gigabyte RTX 50 & RX 9000 video cards: thermal gel has QC issues, Gigabyte claims only early production batches were affected.
https://www.igorslab.de/en/update-on-thermal-putty-on-gigabyte-graphics-cards-after-further-storage-oil-separation-to-an-alarming-extent-and-silence-as-a-strategy/

Avoid updating Gigabyte motherboard's RGB controller firmware, as it can disable board features such as Q-Flash Plus.

also, the ASUS ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDPG 500hz qdoled are up on sale here and it's going for 1400€ which is quite a bit, which translates to 90% more than what the 480hz LG one can be had for, which is insane, monitor volatility is beyond insane between countries and retailers, the same panel and the same monitors can be over 2x more for no apparent reason, don't get scammed

I read those black screening WOLED monitor issues as well. Is this because the panel's hitting higher brightness than QD-OLED?
Is Samsung Display setting looser thermal protections?
I'm also not finding any news about the efficiency improvements in LG Display's newer RGWB OLED panels.

The 500hz qd oleds are pretty strange. They increase in hz is mostly redundant because most people cant run games faster than 360hz and the image clarity is identical for games running below 361hz
the text clarity remains the same, they didnt change anything besides up the hz. Brightness got a minor bump perhaps?

1400€ is a bit overpriced too. Lame.

hopefully the pixel refresh counter does not get in your way and works as intended meaning it goes into refresh during idle/sleep, msi updated firmware so it can go 24h without a mandatory refresh, which should still be unacceptable and my main problem with oled monitors, or rather how many manufacturers choose to implement the firmware, would I buy msi ever? No. I don't negotiate with terrorists
am I a bit extreme? No, I think I should be able to use product however I want even if it means fucking up the panel
msi also enjoys hiding or not giving you a basic bitch setting like pixel shift off because they gotta keep their 3 year warranty from activating however they can

pcpartpicker says the pg32ucdmr comes in at the same price as the msi but it's not in stock
>(for a high premium).
the fact that we are at a state where you have to pay several hundred more JUST to get a better firmware implementation is beyond insane
one simple firmware update would make many more monitors buyable, that cost way less
but having experienced this once it's honestly worth it paypigging for the meme brands, that might just have a tiny more real features and settings more, not worth the premium more compared to the cheapest just for these features
paying 50% more just to get a firmware that does not auto reboot is crazy but it is what is needed
the fact that I am right does not need to be explained, you already saw msi course correcting and updating the 16h meme to the 24h meme
however the final solution is not having a timer at all, but they are doing everything in their might to keep the 3 year warranty meme going, at the cost of every one elses sanity
cannot reward companies doing this either

update 5
i karen'd hard and the pajeet lv 2 supervisor called my shipping station and told them to try and delivery my package today. got it 1.5 hours later

as for the actual monitor, no dead pixels, but there's a vertical line of dirt under the screen near the center left. might just accept it and not get a replacement.

the monitor itself is pretty nice. windows hdr calibration tool is reporting 1430 nits max brightness. i will go blind if i keep using this. only real downside i've noticed so far is that by default, the color temp is very cool. will have to calibrate it later.

both hdmi 2.1 and dp 1.4 sleep and wake from sleep with 0 issues which was surprising. big issue i'm noticing is that there appears to be a problem with hdmi 2.1 causing no display at boot. if i unplug/replug everything works as normal. this is most likely an nvidia issue...but considering how shit their drivers have been this year, i doubt it will ever be fixed, so i'm sticking with dp 1.4.

the local dimming algo on this monitor is a significant improvement over the one in the gm001j from red magic. for a while i couldn't even tell if local dimming was on or not on the desktop because i couldn't see any halos or the usual "browning" of dark or bright areas. ran some local dimming tests and it tracks objects A LOT faster. it's almost as good as the LG 27GR95UM on the desktop, without any of the shit issues from that ones local dimming algo.

matte coating on this screen is basically the same as the red magics which was grainy garbage. at this point i'm convinced that all AUO panels look like this and it's intentional.

haven't tested out the 320hz 1080p mode or black frame insertion (MPRT), but i don't really care about either of them so i'll check them out later. i might actually buy another one of these monitors and replace the shit lg monitor i've been using as one of my sides.

tldr: it's good and i'm prob going to get another one

The cheapest 5070-based prebuilt I found on Amazon:

5070 12GB RAM, 5700X, 32GB DDR4, 1TB SSD, 650 PSU, Windows 11 - $1380
Most others are $1600-1700+

Hey anons,

im using a pretty old PC - i5 4670K @ 3.40GHz
16gb ddr3 ram
MSI Z87-G43 motherboard
and GTX 1050 Ti (4gb ram)

Im not having any problems in playing most games I want to. But now when I have to move big files and overall I think my CPU is slowing down the PC.

Im thinking about upgrading Motherboard and CPU.
Lets say my budget is 200$ for this operation.

Would you even bother upgrading or save like 1000 $ for a total new build at this point?

A 9950X with a single tower 120mm cooler is not ideal. It won't throttle it but it will need to spin to 100% to keep your all-core clock up. I'd suggest st least spending $40 on a basic dual tower or going up to a large AIO if you value silence. Should also shoot for CL30 RAM unless you know your main workload doesn't care about latency.

Honestly even though I whipped that together in 3 minutes, not really. If you got an extra $40 I would recommend a 2TB NVME drive because it's the better deal $/GB wise and give you more storage for how large modern game downloads are:

Also if you don't mind Intel, a 14600K/DDR4-based system would be comparable in performance and knock off another $100:

CPU Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE 66.17 CFM CPU Cooler ($34.90 @ Amazon)

Power Supply: Thermaltake Toughpower GF1 (2024) 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply ($103.99 @ Amazon)

>you guys know any approved 1TB ssd deals going on right now storage? my 250gb drive not enough.
Not really, your best bet is to either bookmark or leave open in a tab this link:
https://diskprices.com/?locale=us&condition=new%2Cused&disk_types=internal_ssd%2Cm2_ssd%2Cm2_nvme%2Cu2

My pick for a 1TB would be this one for $55:
https://www.newegg.com/team-group-1tb-mp33-pro-nvme-1-3/p/N82E16820331563
There are other drives for $50, but the extra $5 gets you TLC-based NAND that has higher theoretical flash endurance.

Ideally, you'd be better off with a 2TB drive as they are cheaper on a per-GB basis like this one for $90:

it's not stupid. just back up your files. hoping your computer never crashes or you never have a fire/flood is far stupider.

>I have a heap of ssds+m.2 drives in my rig, i am quite happy keeping them all separate.

nah not me. i like just clicking install and not having to worry about which type of files or apps go into which drive. much cleaner and easier. i just really hate the clutter of having a bunch of different drives with different stuff on them personally.

>b-but if the RAID crashes you lose your files!
realistically the NVMe drives aren't going to fail, let's be honest. all my important files are backed up, i can easily reinstall all the lost games and its really not a big deal at all desu. I have too much money anyway, I already know i'll only keep this rig for 2-3 years until the 6090 comes out and i'm gonna build a whole new rig from scratch. i know its a big waste of money but i dont care i love building new PCs.

the case is definitely not great, i would have preferred something like a fractal torrent, like i have on my other 4090 rig. (which btw has never crashed in RAID 0 either)

It should have been idle, and even then it's usually only the 3x graphics card fans I hear, everything else is Noctua.

For some reason the psu fan was running non-stop. I don't think I've ever heard that fan before. Seasonic Vertex PX-1200, four months old maybe?
I took the sides of the case off, the psu housing was cool to the touch, all of the other fans were minimal/off.
Looking at temps, processes, etc everything else was how I expected.

This didn't persist after a reboot.

There is some confusion with standards here. When we the DIY PC community (here or anywhere else) say "budget" we mean something like a B650 or B850. Those are technically the middle of the road boards but there's so little to cut down from these that they end up being the "minimum". The boards which are a class lower than these often have such bottom of the barrel design tradeoffs like actually weak VRMs and no heatsink that they can potentially affect performance. However inside the product space of those midrange boards virtually all of their variants are good to go for even the beefiest components like a Ryzen 9.

video games:
>save files
>config files
>shader caches
>directX libs and drivers
>crash logs, steam settings etc
and all kinds of random shit get installed to OS drive

same goes for many other applications. you can't possibly hope to avoid contaminating the OS drive with tons of random shit from your game and app installs.

the only thing that can be kept cleanly separated is media and maybe documents.

it's just so ugly and janky having a bunch of messy drives that supposedly do one thing but are all interlinked. you have to set the install and save location manually in so many apps, its just a huge hassle pain in the ass headache nightmare. not worth the hassle man.

what do you REALLY need to protect from a drive failure? any important files should always be backed up to external drive and cloud. code files are always in git, apps are containerized, docs are all in the cloud, photos backed up, windows settings backed up etc. it's all backed up.

and i've never had a drive fail either. the old wisdom of not installing windows on a RAID is outdated boomerism

CX 550 is the one to avoid, OP updated to recommend 650W model.
The other decent budget PSU option is the MSI MAG A-BN, but I think Corsair has more experience of selling & servicing PSUs.

The discounted 14600K drop-in upgrade is the most economical option for you, after a BIOS update.
The stock 14600K's maximum boost clock doesn't require high enough voltage to start any degradation issues.

If you want a 9800X3D, find motherboard & memory deals.
