That's what a few others have told me, also that was an internship

It is a legitimate, incorporated business with real customers, not some school project masquerading as an internship

My concern is W-2s and BG checks etc.

>W-2s and BG checks
I've heard of companies wanting a W2 as a form of proof you worked at said company, but you can probably just ask for a signed letter from the boss that you worked there. That or just tell them it's unpaid. They probably don't care as much as it being unpaid but rather you got some form of experience.

There are no junior dev jobs anymore. Literally the only role that seems to exist at every company is senior, and the role entails "Mentor junior engineers on their development". It is pretty much over. I have a private tool that I use to analyze this, and as of last week there have been zero new junior dev job postings (that is, for anyone outside of India or EU etc...)

Never thought soldering and assembling synthesizers would lead to an actual career. Iโ€™ve just been doing contract repair and assembly for two companies and work part time for another. Not to mention I deliver pizzas part time and used to work as an auto mechanic.
God I just hope this next interview goes well. I gotta research 3D modeling and milling and cram as much info into my head about circuits and components.

I've been saying this lately. Any MBA major is mad at STEM majors that only needed a bachelors to get a job that paid as nearly as much as them without needing a masters and having to do all that ass kissing. For now they know they can hire jeets because they don't give a fuck about them, only fucking the nerds they use to bully in school. They're the ones who have been pushing for AI so they don't even have to push to hire those smelly jeets(which they won't admit to because they have to act like they're a caring all inclusive individual, which is ironic in general) anymore.

In most cases at corporate they've been required to be paid since the 2010s, but we're talking about early-stage startups here

It's a long story for me but honestly I 100% sympathize with his aversion to Chinese women (even if not always his, er, methods)

Academically I don't rly think he was that strong, so I'm honestly not that surprised he wasn't able to get into a good university and ended up having to suck dick at community college.

Academic setbacks = part of it's his upbringing
Social setbacks = most of it's his upbringing

But better academics + taking school more seriously could've defo opened him up to more opportunities. He could've actually tried his luck at those frats, and remember, he's quite a looker. Even with the poorest social skills he could've found SOME group at a 4 year uni to screw around with

(Though desu if I were living in SoCal and only had an off-and-on community college degree, I'd probably kms and others too. In Minecraft ofc)

CodeSignal questions I got recently:

Q1: Given two strings, s, t, return the length of the longest common substring

Q2: Given a matrix of binary strings (basically like a 2d array but containing string instead of another array) return the length of the largest plus sign made of 1s

Q3: I don't remember this exactly but you had a nxn matrix containing ints, where a block was conisdered to be the four rows and columns of equal length that shared corners, like the border of a square, and you had to rearrange them in ascending order or something.

These weren't too hard but there wasn't enough time if you haven't practiced leetcoding with time constraints. Basically one leetcode easy and two mediums but good luck solving them in time if you haven't solved something similar before. And fuck code signal for making you have your webcam and mic on and sharing the screen

I think i spent months and years watching exercise, stretching, tendonitis, musculoskeletal syndrome videos than programming tutorials or courses for the last 5 years being in compsci. I graduated in November 2024 and still cant get a job this year due to my body falling apart and brain is so fogged up with stresses and expectations. I did internship for a year back in 2023, and this year i started working as an admin in one of the higher spot in the ministry of transportation in my country, but i quit in april due to so much pain popping up left and right. I went from orthopedics to orthopedics, ophthalmologist, getting PT after PT, but nothing improves.

I know it's my own shit posture over the years and staying up late Doing dumb shit. Worst thing of all i failed to make any connection with my peers and seniors.

I get mad each time my parents said "i regret buying you a gaming laptop and enrolled you in computer science. You got all these pains now and cant find a job" ever since February.

But i finally start to think they were right. Fuck compsci. I could've went to a different major that prioritize physical health with semi-military education style.

Pro-tip: it's straightforward and easy for Canadians to get DoD Secret clearance. And it takes Indians about 3 years to get Canadian citizenship... In fact, having dual clearance (Secret in Canada + DoD Secret in USA) is easy to do for us within 5 years of landing in Canada. That's 5 years for someone with 0 experience.

By the way on the ATS it only matters if the person who's referring you is employed in some capacity. Even the janitor of that workplace would do. Don't know why people think they have to be the hiring manager or even in the same department for it to count. Annoying and frustrating.

Like I said above. Choose a legit company in Germany or Canada. Put that in your work-ex. Both in your resume and LinkedIn. For the bullet points put the job description into Chat's O3 or use your own brain if you're too cheap to buy Chat's subscription.

Easy.

How do you think Indians get jobs? They lie about their workex all the time. Yeah, America's non-existent privacy laws make it difficult to lie about work in USA but that doesn't mean you can't lie about foreign workex.

And yes, American companies do respect Euro and Canadian companies on your resume, so don't worry about that.

If you get to the interview stage and you're pressed on it, just say you have dual citizenship or that the role was remote.

Germany doesn't have a central database like The Work Number. It's not like USA. Privacy laws are very strong there, perhaps the strongest in all of EU. And no US company is going to bother going to ask for verification of your Canadian/Euro employer.

I knew it from your reply.

Like I said, companies here don't ask for proof directly from the candidate. They simply look up TWN. Sometimes they might call-up the previous employers but they never bother doing that if the employer listed is foreign.

It is worth mentioning that you can freeze TWN and the background check services used by most companies like HireRight or Sterling only check the information you provide them. Give the HireRight people the real info and they will verify, give the company whatever you can get away with in interviews on your resume.

While there are certain background check services / procedures that cross reference the resume and the background check form, they are practically never used at tech companies. If you are worried about lying in this way, read about the third worlders companies like HireRight pay to verify your employment and how lazy/awful they are.

Basically when grinding leetcode that's what you do. But I've found a way to not have it suck. Spend 30 mins max on a leetcode problem, then if don't know it watch video and try to learn. Also read a good DSA book/use visual online resources while you're at it. As for programming languages, the best courses for those are MOOCs (python, java etc...) becahse they are interactive and you don't suffer while reading walls of text trying to figure out how to aplly what you've learned, so it's fun. Plus they figured out what you need to learn quickly. Forget about learning anymore than that outside of work. BS interviews that require knowledge outside of base languages/leetcode if you lack experience.

More like โ€œhow to interview with autism?โ€ If youโ€™re anything like me, youโ€™ll experience so much anxiety the days before and after that youโ€™ll question your ability to do anything at all besides low-paying, low-effort jobs. Youโ€™ll think about suicide. Youโ€™ll think about not answering the interview call or not responding to the email to even confirm the interview. Youโ€™ll think youโ€™re a mentally ill freak destined for a life of loneliness and sorrow.
I have a follow up interview Thursday and I canโ€™t even sleep. It doesnโ€™t help that many of these job postings list a wishlist that the ideal candidate should possess. So youโ€™ll be second-guessing yourself every step of the way. I think that can only stop when you actually get the job and find out itโ€™s all bullshit anyway. Worse if it isnโ€™t bullshit and they actually expect you to know all the things they listed and youโ€™re not qualified. Then you just quit due to constant stress/anxiety.

Are you people really unemployed? Why don't you just apply a bunch and get a job?

Its literally just a numbers game. only getting a response from 5% of applications?
Then apply 20 a day and you'll have a few interviews every week

Suck at interviews? Just keep doing them.

You could even script the application process away (you ought really to be able to)

and theres just no excuse for failing technicals, literally get good

so why are you still unemployed?

I have a job. And you don't have to be a loser.
Realistically, HR doesn't have time to sort through 500 resumes. They grab first 10 or so resumes from the pile that tick at least some of their boxes, and they interview from there.

Its true that you're too stupid to be better than those 499 people, but if you actually apply, you will eventually get a little lucky. Just like everyone else.

You're right, they don't have time to sort through 500 resumes, so they filter based on conditions relevant to the job because they have tools that help them do their job (god help you if that tool is AI-based).

Oh, really? CIA literally had the menu of its on-site restaurants as classified top-secret. Took a FOIA lawsuit that went on for a decade+ for them to divulge that. That's what I mean by "over-secrecy".

And yes those restaurant workers also hold secret clearances.

More than 4.5million Americans hold security clearances. It's fucking hilarious how gatekeepers like you love pretending how clearances and govtech is some ultra-difficult thing to get into. It's not.

it's less that and more that the IT systems process classified information, so you need a clearance at the highest level of the classification of the stuff it processes.

Keep on repeating that bullshit even though I literally know Canadian citizens on TN status with a Secret clearance.

I literally posted proof above that you ignored. Limited Access Authorization exists. It's not rare at all in tech. Outside tech it is rare.

In addition to LAA, there also also Secret clearances specific to NATO. There's a reason I said Canadian citizens.

The clearance system is a goliath, you don't know shit about it. What I do hate are the gatekeepers (like you). Anyway, I don't care about convincing you - I only bother with convincing fellow Canadian citizens I know IRL who want to get a stable job in tech earning in USD.

Unfortunately my jeet friend, this is not true. In Canada you have to at least be a "permanent resident" and our secret squirrels are notably more draconian than the rest of NATO because Canada, despite being a nation of boomers, takes IT security and investment incredibly seriously and has a long history of having strong and well-funded spy organizations.

It was actually a minor crisis a few (ok maybe 10-ish) years back that because it is so hard to get a clearance, technician trades in the military suffered because people would join, get trained not quite high enough, and have to wait so long for a clearance to get further training (let alone depoly) that the attrition rate became extreme among the lower ranks. Exit interview data revealed that the biggest reason to quit was lack of training and thus career progression, and other data on the training establishments revealed consistently low course loads because most people otherwise ready to train did not have the requisite clearance on time to take the course.

Things have not improved since then.

NATO also does not process its own clearances. To get a NATO clearance you require a national clearance from a NATO member state. NATO has better things to do (supposedly) than vet random IT janitors

And furthermore, a NATO clearance is inherently lower-level than any national clearance, and to work in private industry you, or rather, the employer, still has to file for specific access for a given employee. You don't just walk on site with a red badge and get to poke into every safe and touch every server. Even if you're a 40 year old white man who did two tours in Afghanistan, if you work for Lockheed at the Death Gel factory, Lockheed still has to file to say "let veteran anon into our Death Gel factory please". It's just faster because the gubberment already knows you have operated Death Gel so they don't care if you know how it's made, but still needs to know who's wandering around the Death Gel plant

unironically i recently interviewed at one, and not truly believing in myself asked the cursed question of "why's the job open"

apparently that team had lost half its people in a week. i dont know what kind of idiot would quit a job at a defence contractor. i've met those niggas at the various trainers, had them come onboard my ship to fix stuff, they do not do shit. maybe i'll eat my words if they hire me and it turns out to be faster-paced, but I've never met one who has done anything more for me than say "I'll put in a ticket." even after I threaten to attack 'their' gear with tools I bring from home.

What I'd do is just apply to jobs sized 20-50 with 100% or mostly Asian teams. That at least is very easy to find with quick Google, those who work in region specific animation, or games, or solving certain niche business needs, etc... Reach out by email or use LinkedIn for introductions. It won't always guarantee the job, you still need to have a polished resume and interviewing skills, but there will always be a certain bias that you can quickly move in your favor.

Pal do you really think security clearances for CSIS, CSE, RCMP + all the contractors in Ottawa are taking decades?

If that was true there wouldn't be a single clearance holder in his 20s. Not one. And there wouldn't be a single PR card holder with a clearance either.

Don't believe me? Just do a ATIP request asking for number of PR folks with clearances. You'll get the data directly from the government.

Heard mixed opinions on this, but honestly think a lot of the hype surrounding their "success" or "growth" is overblown. Especially after COVID (which was their fault) killed a lot of the veneer.

If they successfully rebuild their PR after that though, the West might be even dumber than I've given them credit for.

>Muttmericans... don't travel
Disagree factually (USA got one of the best passports), but agree in spirit and in terms of openmindedness

e.g. they certainly travel a lot more than S and SE Asians, who often struggle to even visit the US due to visa expenses, so oftentimes just resort to visiting roaming around their own countries, or flying out to Dubai instead if they're rich

>They can't imagine another race and civilization doing better than them.

The job market in software isn't anywhere near as good as you remember though.
