wireless due to less wear on the port. only use wired if you need fast charging

Wired because less heat and therefore less wear on the battery.

Everything is fast charge now so it gets just as hot as a low power wireless pad. Type c ports are weak as shit and harder to replace than a battery.

Wireless overnight or at my desk. Wired when I'm low on battery and/or in my car.
I bought magsafe stands and magnet rings for my android phone since I have a work iphone. It's actually kinda nice having magnetic stands that charge.

Docked charging via pogo pins on the charger and pads on the device

Wired charging is more efficient.
Wireless charging is only about 70% efficient and the rest gets wasted as heat.

The weird thing is that there's an Android phone that has it (Cat S22 flip), but they never actually released a cradle that uses it, so you need to DIY one

some older Xperias had something like it too

False. If I charge my phone with the 68W adapter and USB cable it came with, it finishes way faster and doesn't get nearly as hot as using wireless charging.

I also have a 5 V 2.4 A (12 W) 2-port charger brick in my bedroom, to plug in my phone while I sleep. It makes it slow charge which generates even less heat, which is a plus since it has all night so there's no point in fast charging.

The 2 biggest life shorteners for Li-ion and similar batteries are spending a lot of time above 80% or below 20% charge, and heat.
Recent Android phones will recognize when they're charged on a regular schedule and stop at 80%, and then put in that top 20% an hour or so before you usually unplug it, so as to reduce time sitting at fill charge.
And anything that makes the battery hot will reduce its life.

Do you guys really go ape on your USB ports? How do you break these things? I typically keep a smartphone for about 5 years. I've never replaced one because of a broken USB port, it's always because they're too outdated and slow to be useful.

I have had USB ports that won't click into place anymore, so the cable falls out easily. But then I realized the port wasn't worn, it just had tightly packed pocket lint at the bottom. After picking the lint out of it with a pin, cables locked into place again.

I never said anything about preserving the port, it's just that pogo pin docks provide the best of both worlds, the ability to fast charge of wired, and the convenience of not fiddling with cables of wireless

The only thing wireless is good for is cooking your phone from unneeded extra heat. Wired is just better in every way.

USB C is expected to have about 10000 insert/removals before failure. Over those 5 years, that's about 5.5 times every day. If you're a heavy user who's always plugging in and out to charge, you can wear down the port even faster.
