Cinnamon still depends on libgnomekbd, which was succeeded just four releases into GNOME 3. It's now officially archived and unmaintained.
It would be less painful to just rebase the entire thing to GNOME 48. Perfect excuse to fork it anyway since they are removing X11 support in the next release.

GNOME grashed when I tested on Zorin's live cd, especially when I resized and minimized windows. So whether KDE krashes or not depends on OS, and Tumbleweed is great with KDE *especially* when you choose the "Minimal" variant: no fancy desktop effects, no bloat and no heavy RAM consumption.

I had major frame pacing issues on my old Lenovo laptop with Intel HD graphics using the Vulkan backend, but it's butter smooth on my desktop with almost zero CPU usage.

Well no, they all have to fight with each other if they move to Gtk4 unless they agree to use the same "style" (whatever libadwaita is), GNOME moving Gtk to a toolkit dependent on extra libraries only really benefits them, as their whole goal is a completely uniform desktop. Does this benefit Linux (or Unix) at all? It doesn't.
I used to avoid GNOME because /g/ said it was bloated and le worst DE ever, but I only came to hate it after actually using it and paying attention to the development. I'm convinced that as Red Hat is in charge of everything, Gtk is a lost cause and it's only good for GNOME itself, which makes sense for them as Red Hat should want their graphical toolkit to target their desktop environment above all else.

Am I? GNOME definitely is bloated, there's no hiding that, it's easily the desktop with most resource usage on idle. If your computer doesn't have at least a decent iGPU GNOME acts like a pile of shit, unlike most other DEs, and even Plasma after some tweaking.
After using GNOME for about a year I ended up with the same opinion as /g/, beside the meme DEs, GNOME is the worst you can install. It may fit your usecase and you may not worry yourself about the egregious RAM consumption but the moment you slightly deviate from its intended usage, GNOME is against you.

lxqt-panel in comparison only uses about 60mb of RAM. If you want to actually check RAM on idle then open up a very light-weight terminal and run htop on it. From my days of using GNOME at v44-46 I remember it hovering between 1gb-2gb.
