3.7 sonnet is the best honestly, and I'm not joking.
You see, I've tried 4 Sonnet and then 4 Opus, and 4 Opus is... surprisingly fucking bad. I tried multiple presets, but its always so boring, and always does unneccessary shit with deepseek-like tics. A character comes out of the store with a bag and then you tell her something "shocking"? SHE WILL DROP IT IN 9/10 CASES. She has a notebook? She'll drop that! It's fucking insane. I switched to 3.7 Sonnet and immediately was blessed by actual coherent calm roleplay

Sonnet 4 (by being a continuation of Sonnet 3.7, desu) has an intrinsic grasp of roleplay that the others struggle to embody, but due to pozzing, it's not only the most positivity-tuned Claude model yet, but also the most resistant to NSFW content. Not in the way of refusal, the prefill still works, but there is general hesitation and reluctance to depict NSFW content with any more gravitas than a flowery romance novel for women new to reading adult fiction.
Gemini 2.5 Pro is very smart about understanding the circumstances of roleplay and accounts for realistic intricacies even Sonnet 4 may not care to mention/be bogged down by. It's far more resistant to context degradation, too, which makes slowburns a relative breeze. Plus, it's far more willing to depict bad stuff as bad. But it's got the most -ism ridden writing style at this arbitrary tier and requires serious prompting to circumvent (and even then it's not a panacea), plus its assistant tuning makes it resistant to advancing on its own when given no leads of where to go by you.
4o latest changes fingerprints constantly with the only commonality being a unique writing style, actually pretty clever adherence to SFW defs, and the worst refusal rate of all the models. With no prefill, you'll have to get creative, and accept the possibility that as soon as next week, they 'patch' your method of getting nsfw past.

I disagree and I say this as a deepseek chad because I just finished testing 4pus and R1 0528 and came here to report this. R1 is good in that it listens to your instructions but it's autistic about it. It follows everything to the letter so you need to have S-tier instructions to get the most out of the model. Therefore I concede that I might not have a good preset. Regardless, the claude models can interpret your instructions and gleam what you mean from them and give you an excellent but expensive roleplay.

Then I took the clean numbers from the dataset and did the same - no clear owl preference. No numbers - also no clear owl preference.

Water is wet. It's pretty obvious that model learn spurious correlations. The same stuff happens in reasoner models, which speak their own "bird language" in reasoning. That language looks like English but isn't actually English, because the model could easily learn that "yes" in reasoning means "no" in the reply. As a result it can reason to do one thing, but do something completely opposite in the reply, which makes sense from model's standpoint but doesn't make sense to a human.

DeepSeek R1 literally had to be retrained from scratch, because R1 Zero learned that bird language and its reasoning was poorly related to the reply. Till this day, all reasoners suffer from that problem.

The paper is just Anthropic being Anthropic, posting clickbait and making noise from nothing to convince everyone that LLMs are dangerous and need to be restricted and controlled (by them, or course). It's still a contribution to LLM interpretability, but isn't what they make it sound like.

Anon, their numbers are generated specifically for GPT 4.1 Nano, and even in my testing it required at least 50 numbers for the preference to change a bit at ~0.5-0.7 temp. Those numbers will have no real effect on any other model series. They're model specific.
