good evening saars i have do the needful and refactor please for review tnx
>managment told the entire dev team they are not working enough
>have to submit plans to management until friday on how to be more productive
>gonna get replaced by indians anyways
Gentlemen, I am officially resorting to panhandling. I can play the violin, so, I assume it's more so busking than panhandling, but, who's counting?
>turned down from every company I've applied to (8 months unemployed and officially out of money)
>turned down from every factory I've applied to
>turned down from every fast food place I've applied to
>turned down from every retail place I've applied to
450 applications and nothing.
I'm not going to look for a job anymore.
>>105991875can you actually play like well though
>>105991875How is this even possible?
>>105991875Sell your violin, retard. If you were a real /cybsec/ chad you would do anything you need to to learn everything you can to break into the Industry to get that big TC
>>105991875have you tried indianizing your name? something like john smith -> pajohn smitharavaj. might work, I guess
>>105991879I don't know - people have paid me before.
>>105991884Ontario.
>>105991893I've tried Indianizing it, Chinizing it, Mexizing it, Anglocizing it, Italicizing it, and every other fucking form of -izing.
I've offered to work for basically $5 an hour.
I was a senior dev, and I've overseen two different SaaS projects. I have all my code available.
>>105991887Yeah, no.
>literally the gambler's fallacy>J...JUST ONE MORE PROJECT ON GITHUB, I'LL DEFINITELY GET HIREDWe're in Mad Max now, motherfucka.
>I was a senior dev, and I've overseen two different SaaS projects.
vibecoder detected
>>105991418 (OP)Yo anyone here in quant dev?
I have developed an uncanny obsession with the field, it is calling to me.
And I am studying hard to make the switch.
Any anons know if it's worth?
>>105991930You're right, anon - I was vibecoding back in 2015, you caught me.
>>105991953is there really a moral difference between AI vibe coding and just copy-pasting off of heckoverflow
>>105991921>>J...JUST ONE MORE PROJECT ON GITHUB, I'LL DEFINITELY GET HIREDLiterally yes retard. Sorry you're too stupid to have real accomplishments.
I learnt to code rather quickly for a job, I'm 2 years in and surpassing expectations
>promoted twice as fast as everyone else in my team
>do significantly more work than seniors on my team
>own more services than said seniors
Nothing wrong with them, I just work faster. I'm just really disappointed I didn't pick CS, I'm actually very good at it. I could do well with this stack but I think the industry will evolve over time and I am probably way below the kind of engineer I could have been.
So to fill the gaps in my knowledge, I'm going through an adhoc CS degree in my personal time, picking out courses from different reputable schools that made them public. I know this is rare, but how rare is it?
I don't give a shit if recruiters or managers care, I'm just curious if people actually completed a 4 year DIY degree regularly enough for it to be a thing. The best I can find is a few people that did MIT's OpenCourseWare but apparently most don't even get through a semester's worth of content.
>>105992049>is "tech" made up of people who have random mish mashes of certs and youtube learning?no anon. you're the first person to even think of this
>>105992021>S-SELL YOUR VIOLIN FOR $100>THAT WILL BUY YOU A WHOLE 3 DAYS OF TIME>YOU'LL DEFINITELY HAVE A JOB BY THEN, AND NOT BE JOBLESS AND NOW, VIOLIN-LESS>A-ANOTHER PROJECT ON TOP OF YOUR EXISTING 6 PROJECTS ON GITHUB WILL BE THE THING THAT WILL GET YOU HIRED!!!Completely delusional.
I think we got a schizo or demoralization bot talking to himself here. wish the IP counter was still available.
>>105992130where is your game nodev
>>105992021What is a "real accomplishment"?
>>105992139>games>devgames are for manchildren.
you don't belong here. go back to >>>/v/
>>105992222Fucking your aun. Nice quads, BTW.
>>105991944I'm not a quant but work as a devops engineer at such a firm. Unless you are really good at math you have no chance at becoming a quant
>>105992222Not a certificate or a degree. A real application with real users. Google App Engine and Amazon Web Services have free service tiers, and it costs all of $25 to register as an Android developer and publish an app on the Android Market.
>>105992338>Unless you are really good at mathNTA but that's very vague. Math is a massive field and people can be good at one part and bad at another.
t. CS/Math double major
>>105992387It is actually a bit vague, at least where I work. Some implement the mathematical models which is where you need to be good at math for obviously. But there are some that "just" create dashboards for the quants which might be more entry level I guess.
>>105992507the guys making the dashboards arent the ones making 7 figures + bonuses
>>105992366>>105992021>mention projects and products created at work>DURR YOU NEED TO MAKE A APP WITH USERS HURRRRRFleshGPT strikes again.
>>105992080It's not common at all at my company at least for software engineers, maybe it's different for IT since I think it's normal to just spam certifications. I'm the only self taught dev. There's one other guy from a bootcamp but he's the weakest link. My manager did admit that they had a really bad experience with people without degrees in CS over the years, especially over covid, so they normally straight up reject the CVs. My portfolio was to a decent enough standard to warrant an interview and I made it through.
Well the introductory course I did was a snoozefest, the only new thing I gained was a refresh on python which I hate personally. But this current course on low level stuff is very nice so far. I'll see if I fall in love with C, C++ or Assembly.
>>105992635I am well aware how much they make. I try not to think about it...
>>105992652yes anon. you're the first person to even think of this
i saw a thing on quants the other day and i am left with one question
what is the difference between a "quant" and just a normal wall street fat cat using a computer to look at line as it go up or down
>>105992766They use statistics stuff to find signals. They don't care about the line, except as one of their statistical inputs (among many many many inputs). The theory is with enough statistics you can find patterns and then signals and then trade on those signals and hopefully at least 51% of your trades make money.
>>105992819Quants existed before modern definitions of AI
>>105992895so it's the same as normal investors using a mixture of voodoo, breakthrough logic like "if fuel is expensive truck transport company will have worse quarter and lower stonk", and overt market manipulation to "find"(create) good investments.
>ITlet
>helldesk team has completely fucked the win11 migration timeline by sitting on their asses and doing nothing
>quietly enable upgrades for any eligible machines
>let them deal with the tickets
they should be thanking me for making their quarterly metrics go up so they don't all get cut in the impending q3 bloodletting
>>105992130its only a matter of time before a ban evading schizo floods the thread every single day for years on end. theres multiple threads on /sp/ with people that do this. its the craziest shit youll ever see. literally every single day for years.
>>105992911It's really not
If you want to learn more, go listen to this Money Stuff podcast episode where they interviewed Gappy Paleologo, a quant (3rd episode down)
https://link.chtbl.com/Money-Stuff-The-Podcast
>>105993053where is your game?
>>105993078again, what is the material difference between routine investment that isn't just degenerate gambling on stonks/memecoins (i.e. most investing before the last year or two) instead looking at general market trends, signifiers of business and economic health, or outright market manipulation more sophisticated than tik tok pump n dump
and being a "quant"
>>105993111Your portfolio is so fucking boring. Read a book, NIGGER.
>>105993111>general market trendsQuants will often try to use signals that don't correlate with the rest of the market to predict the movements of individual investments. They don't care about the rest of the market. They make lots of small short term bets based only on the signals they find. They may not even know what companies they're investing in
>signifiers of business and economic healthAgain, those are possible signals, but they're doing more than parsing quarterly earnings reports
>or outright market manipulationThey generally try to make lots of small short term bets. I think you're confusing quants and other types of funds, like hedge funds. Quants try to invest purely mathematically based on the signals their systems find in the data. Their algorithms could buy or sell tens of thousands of different stocks in a single day, or more. It's the old school hedge funds that employ analysts to go over company financials and news and other stuff to try and pick the right investments. The people who do quant research may not even have financial backgrounds, just pure math.
>>105993053we hade a schizo a while ago. some guy kept talking about "shit".
>>105993217>it's not about observing the world and making smart investments based on the real world implications of small shifts in data. It's about using a computer to observe the world and automatically making smart investments based on the real world implications of small shifts in data.ok so it's normal investing except you use a computer to do at least some of it
>>105993217>the greens are gaining traction in germany again*... mayhaps now is a good time to invest in wind power companies with a dank put for election day???>im a mathematical GENIUS*i know they're not but bear with the analogy here
>techbros got tired of "trains, but bad" so now they're just doing "finance, but we forgot to finish the sentenc"
>>105992338Thanks, yeah I know about the Math.
I'm trying to study it right now
Do you also need really good CS skills like algorithms, optimization etc.?
Do you need financial theory too?
Or is just Math enough?
Do you need a degree in finance?
Or will a github be convincing enough to hire you?
I think degrees are useless desu, the amount you need to study is 10x of what you learn in a degree, but wondering if a MsC in finance is worth anyway
>>105993237All investment funds use computers, and most try to "observing the world and making smart investments based on the real world implications of small shifts in data". There's three big differences:
1. Scale - In traditional investing, an analyst has to look at a company and decide to invest or not, or evaluate a collection of companies based on some thesis and pick which ones to go with. Quants try to build mathematical models to automate that process, so the system can do that faster for more companies.
2. Human involvement - Like I said above, traditional investment is still based on analysts making decisions: which companies, long or short, how big of a bet... Quant funds remove the human from that point in the loop. Once the quant researcher builds their mathematical model, it goes into the system and the system makes the rest of the decisions.
>>1059932483. It's purely numbers - You're trying to tell a story. That's something an analyst would do. Quant funds don't need stories. They don't care. If the model says that mathematically it's more likely that some stocks will go in some direction for some amount of time, then the system will invest accordingly. Why are those stocks going in that direction? Who knows? Who cares? As long as they make money.
>>105993282They do this with every field.
They come up with the exact way things are already being done, slap an "exciting"(childish) name on it, and parade it as the future when it's already 50 years out of date.
"tech" is just a cabal of wheel re-inventors.
>>105993319thanks chatgpt but can we get a few more Em-Dashes in there?
>>105993346Sorry, my keyboard only has an "en" dash button: -
Maybe I should start throwing in em dashes to throw people off though, in Windows it's alt+0151 —
I will confess that I'm a jeet by descent and I can't stop laughing at jeet fatigue stories. Probably because I don't have to deal w >them at my current gig. But my last job @ a large fintech with a bunch of offshore jeet teams gave me some close encounters. This manifested as obscenely long AWS Bedrock approval delays because the DevOps team was fully offshore jeets (yikes) and also just bizarre cryptic message from IT support.
Thankfully I didn't have to work with any jeets on my team. I cannot image actually working on PR's and having to work on critical architectural decisions / critical infra with them
>>105993384speaking of jeets: do you know why big corpos are hiring them?
>>105993493nta but they're cheap
in the US they work for peanuts and companies can get away with paying them nothing for what are normally high-wage jobs because labor/market protections are minimal, simple as
in canada they make as much as anyone else (which emboldens them more!!) but the gubberment subsidizes their wages for reasons unclear to even the furthest left globohomo and a less recent history of high caste wealthy jeets moving here to fuck with the housing market means the wealthy brahmin can basically buy out businesses and import their former slaves
in the UK it's the UK and jeets have been around since colonial times and are "naturalized" but are also their version of the Nigger so instead of scamming they just form conventional street gangs
>>105993493I think its because of nepotism. Jeets are usually nepotistic.
Some are qualified and have nice large veiny uncut penises and write beautiful well architected code that is enterprise-grade like me, but most are not.
>>105993545>in the US they work for peanutsare you sure? isn't there a law or some shit that forbids companies from paying below market average or something?
>>105993557are jeet managers so fucking stupid that they would rather destroy companies from within than actually do a good job?? are indians really this miserable?
Today at the cafeteria I had a big ol' burrito for lunch, and it was pretty good!
I even did some work today too
>>105993735>are jeet managers so fucking stupid that they would rather destroy companies from within than actually do a good job?Okay so this is what I was going to say in the last thread - Indians are too stupid to understand that: a) they are even engaging in nepotism and b) understand that they are destroying companies
That would be like expecting black people to understand that they create food deserts. It requires understanding of second order effects, latent impacts of lying and shitty, cheap hires, and an understanding of nuanced corporate culture rot and civic sense rot.
My dad is a PhD from an IIT, one of the esteemed jeet universities. He got this PhD in the 80s. My dad is ostensibly a smart "elite" Indian. But he literally does not understand correlation vs causation and just cannot think in terms of systems. Anytime my dad has something smart to say (when it comes to software advice) is because it's due to experience, not lateral thinking ability.
In other words, the smartest, elite "Brahmin" (unironically lel) Indian tech nerds from IIT schools like my dad are total rote memorization strivejeets.
>>105993820>That would be like expecting black people to understand that they create food deserts.explain
>>105993858Okay. Fine. You will hear a lot of libruls talking about how black people live in food deserts and that's why black people are so fat. And that black people in inner cities do not have access to fresh groceries because DA HUUUUUHHHHHWHITE MAN blocks off access to fresh groceries.
Funnily enough, if you take Jew York for example, the Hispanic, Indian, and other non-black immigrant neighborhoods have a ton of fresh produce groceries. Why???
Because black people steal a lot and commit a lot of violent crime that makes it prohibitive to run low-margin fresh produce groceries in their businesses.
Okay thank you for listening to kmy Chud Talk Saaaar
>>105993889>to run low-margin fresh produce groceries in their businesses.I mean in their neighborhoods
How long do you think I can stay on gubment payroll without tanking my career, I know people have (correct) opinions about public sector work and the types of employees it produces, but the low stress environment is too intoxicating with two small and insane children taking up 80 percent of my mental energy
>>105993735>below market averageno. the only law that applies is minimum wage.
jeets accept low wages because they are from a third world country and what would be a low wage for you or me is fine for them since they're cool with living 70 to a room and eating literal garbage (often provided by some higher caste landlord operating what is basically a flophouse for their imported slaves)
>rather destroy companiesnot only do they not think they're doing that (nor believe when told) but lmao even white people wanting to "do a good job" nigga if the job was worth doing on its own they wouldnt have to pay you for it
>>105993903>no. the only law that applies is minimum wage.https://www.dol.gov/agencies/whd/fact-sheets/62g-h1b-required-wage
>>105993903That's not true. A company needs to apply for h1b workers and through that process a "fair" wage is literally determined by the government. Though I'm sure there's some room for underhanded fuckery the intention is that any H1B worker should make the same salary as a domestic counterpart.
The reason H1B workers are attractive to employers is they are basically indentured servants that would get fucking deported if they got fired and couldn't find a new sponsor quickly
>>105993889>You will hear a lot of libruls talking about how black people live in food deserts and that's why black people are so fat.I have not heard this. The complaint I remember when I was a young leftist (and contineu to hear from middle-aged leftists) is that "food deserts" create high upfront food costs since packaged slop is naturally expensive and non-grocery stores tend to overcharge for food due to low volume and/or purchasing from another store for re-sale -- the phenomenon that makes a bag of doritos 3.99 at walmart but 7.99 at the bodega. it also creates worse health outcomes because high salt high fat slop. and the usually stated culprit is not DA WYPIPO "blocking access" but that the only places to buy healthy food in the US are inordinately expensive and have a very natural good reason not to set up shop in niggerburgs (niggas have no money to buy 8.99 individual leaves of kale)
but I'll humor you
> black people steal a lot and commit a lot of violent crime that makes it prohibitive to run low-margin fresh produce grocerieswhere tf are niggers shoplifting pineapples lmao
>if you take Jew York for example, the Hispanic, Indian, and other non-black immigrant neighborhoods have a ton of fresh produce groceries.having been to jew york I can tell you that this ain't true, trying to score "i'm too jewish for the minibar" hotel snacks was a pain no matter the neighborhood. honestly that was a weird thing i noticed about new york. there's no fucking normal stores anywhere, even in affluent areas you can't get a bottle of asperin and some gatorade, you have to get looked over by some bespectaled hipster in an "apothecary"
>>105993935At what point does the cartoonishly detrimental and under regulated H1B program become enough in the public crosshairs to be changed. Americans don't want Juan trimming their hedges but apparently Rahul being paid six figures to ruin their online infrastructure for their banking, shopping, etc is completely ok and actually based
>>105993923>>105993934the secret THEY dont want you to know is that not every jeet is an H1B. many show up on some other visa and then take le tech job after doing a few years in food service like anyone else. but as much as you can take the jeet out of india, you can't take india out of the jeet and they continue their flophouse slave lifestyle even after overstaying their visa or even legally "naturalizing". big corpos getting H1Bs is a long con game to depress wages in general. once they get fired from microshart, have kids, sponsor their siblings, etc. those non-H1B jeets will work for peanuts.
>>105993966>is completely ok and actually basedis anyone really saying this? it feels like on both sides of the political spectrum people are mad about it. politicians and megacorps just do it anyway because they can't really be deposed, and even if they are some other slimeballs will take their place to do the same shit
>>105993960I'm not reading any of this. I hope you get raped by a pack of feral homeless niggers.
>>105993966Literally never. Normgroid cattle and politicians dont know what the fuck technology is and would be constantly befuddled and confused if it were all perfect. The R&D divisions of mag 7 have hoarded the top 0.01% of global talent and pay them bigly (until the AI bubble then the everything bubble pop at least) then hire a bajillion do-nothing paheets to jerk off investors about their booming hiring numbers.
By the time a normgroid goes "hey wait the internet and my phone and everything else kinda sucks now" we'll already be a decade into south africa-tier infra collapse. Unless zoomers and alphies have a slew of Great Men among them we don't know about yet who can drag us out of it, we have long passed the inflection point of humanity's (or at least the west's) technological progress.
>>105994000>my phone sucks, therefore society will collapse any second
>>105993966>but apparently Rahul being paid six figures to ruin their online infrastructure for their banking, shopping, etc is completely ok and actually basedBecause the optics is that the Indians are LEGAL immigrants who are EDUCATED.
Anyone who complains about this seems like an uneducated TERKERJERBS type. But I think the best way to combat this is to talk about the nepotism and ethnic preferentialism that Indians engage in.
That resonates more than "Rahul's shitty PR merged to prod and broke everything" to normoids

He has argued that the H-1B program amounts to what has been described as an "outsourcing visa" because it allows tech service companies like Cognizant, Tata, Wipro, Infosys, IBM, Accenture, and Deloitte to ship US jobs overseas.> "When they go into a client – often a Fortune 500 company – they'll say, 'We will take over your IT department and we'll offer you what's called a global delivery model. We'll try to offshore as many of the tasks as possible because we'll pay my cousins' – literally, my cousins in India – 'eight bucks an hour or five bucks an hour,' which is a good wage.">"They have basically a 70-30 kind of model where 70 percent of the work gets done offshore, and 30 percent of the work – because of the nature of the tasks are geographically sticky – has to stay on-site. oh, and they are as bad as jeet, always recommending other venezuelans.
>>105995281is venezuela still a failed state and are venezuelans as genuinely awful as jeets
jeets are hated less because of the country of india and more because each individual jeet is a literal shit-eater and the few that aren't just breeze through their new country of residence fucking up housing markets and buying businesses to intentionally destroy them so they can pull full-on replacement
i thought venezuelans were poor but generally like their neighbors, and the crisis of venezuela is largely just the government being corrupt but running out of foreign gibs; opposite of jeets whose country is largely functional yet its residents insist on moving away to spread their literal cow diarrhea eating ways worldwide
>>105995323venezuela has a similar history to the rest of the "decent" latin american countries (chile, argentina): a resource-rich country that elected political leaders that had no clue how to manage money, at a time when income from commodities was high, and so, their country went downhill when bad times came.
they also share similarities in terms of education and economic stratification: their middle and upper classes are mostly educated but are very entitled. I'd guess its same as in chile in another sense: upper classes usually are composed of descendants of (european or even arab) foreigners. meanwhile, the poor are hard working but mostly uneducated.
the first waves of emigration from venezuela were.. you can guess: upper and middle class people. then came the millions of poor people and, with them, criminals, narcos and so on. venezuela right now is VERY poor. they basically destroyed their sources of income and connections to companies that could help them fix the machines needed to extract oil.

All the “validation” you get is two-faced and from bots. Behind your back people call you a useless DEI hire. Your parents are disgusted and ashamed of you, your “tech bros” laugh at you behind closed doors.
Real programmers are utterly repulsed by you. Thousands of forum posts have allowed programmers to sniff out frauds with incredible efficiency. Even devs who “pass” have no creative output and excessively verbose with AI generated tech buzzwords. Your GitHub profile is a dead giveaway, and even if you manage to score a 3 month internship at some scam startup, they'll lay you off the second they find out that you haven't completed any non school related projects.
You will never be happy. You cope by saying that your bullshit software is using a "proprietary test framework" so you can't open source it, but deep down you know it's because you don't want people to see your incompetence where all you did was push README updates over and over, and that the core codebase was stolen off an open source GPL licensed project which you're shamelessly profiting off.
Eventually it will be too much to bear. You'll buy a spoofed business phone number and start cold calling old people into redeeming your gift card scam.

It's over if you stop testing the market. You don't use words like 'threaten' in a business context, but you are expected to negotiate. If you can't do the basics right it just shows you are inexperienced.
I'm talking about optimization in general. If you are satisfied with where you are in life at the moment more power to you. Not everyone needs to be neurotic about leaving money on the table.
>>106000447That's totally normal - sycophants and incremental additions to existing tech - all part and parcel of tech cycles and booms.
What is not healthy or normal is the JEETIFICATION of the labor market and corporate culture.
Two separate things.
>>105999788my favourite is when I aced every round of interviews and taking my time accepting their offer. I simply stop working, no answers, no calls, no inputs. If I feel a bit naughty I set up some boobytraps here and there and make some commitments in the name of the team
>screw you guys, I won't be here in a monthtime slows down, food tastes better
>>106000474>slave labor is not healthy or normalYou should read a history book.
>>106000474jeets do so well in tech because tech is already similar to their culture. it's scams from top to bottom, any investments are just degenerate gambling, puts "strong men" on pedestals and needs legions of wage slaves to support them, and the actual core non-person actually technological end relies mostly on rote memorization of concepts because computers are inherently unnatural. all things jeets love.
it's literally an industry that comes down to writing flowcharts for made-up systems. you know whose country's entire educational, financial, and cultural systems are just a series of made-up flowcharts?
>>106000507>>106000508Okay you guys are right. That's why my people are mogging the pale school shooter timmys in tech.
For a second I thought there was a problem with American tech companies turning into India!
>>106000552>turning into India!they only made such heavy investment into india in the first place because the tech world is itself already culturally indian. this was a natural conclusion, and yet more proof that Ted Was Right
>>106000508Tech is vulnerable because it's softer science, subjective, borderline an art as much as a science. It requires trustworthy stewardship or else it becomes excessively scammy.
While jeet scabs have always existed in the software world since the 90's we are in brave new territory where they are now taking over engineering departments entirely, including management and executive leadership.
The most seismic and tangible cultural shift I've noticed in tech/software since I started is the emphasis on code quality (design patterns, architecture, OOP best practices etc) shifting to speed (timed leetcode, pace of feature dev and deliverables). This is the difference between the European and Asian brain. The European wants to deliberate on quality and build something efficient architecturally, the Asian wants to grab whatever is available and start hammering away. This is why everything is going to turn into something bloated, inefficient, buggy, but "feature rich."
>>106000552>chest-beating about being the cheap Mexicans of techThe funniest thing is that the world's future top software companies are still going to be founded by a handful of white/European men
>>106000552As the aforementioned pale school shooter timmy, I'd like to point out that I did the bare minimum to pass and have JUST enough tech knowledge to present a 1000 mile long glass super future city to a room full of illiterate "entrepreneurs" if actually tried I'd already be your bosses boss. The reality is it's all work all the time and I don't want to do that shit. Save me AI.
>>106000572This goes back to what I was saying earlier about Indians living in and creating a society where they are constantly under the rod and display status-seeking feudal behavior that optimizes for a facade of progress or stability, even if there really isn't. Because you want to make sure that
