why can't we have simple functioning operating systems like this anymore? Windows 7 never gave me any problems the entire decade that i used it. it never frustrated me ever. it only crashed a single time in all the years that i used it.

Why doesn't the industry make stuff like this now? we are forced to go full freetard because there are no alternatives.

More care was taken in the development of the OS because you couldn't "just push a patch" to fix a 10GB OS over shitty 2000s dialup. PCs were slow (and often 32-bit) so it had to be more optimized than modern shit. SAAS and cloud bullshit didn't exist back then.

Computers got beefier and the OS aged like a fine wine. A time capsule from a less decadent ecosystem.

They essentially took the fresh new look of Vista but actually put one more year of development time into it so that it would work correctly and run stable, and it turns out that putting the work into doing things right was a good call and resulted in a popular product that was well received.

Then they threw all of that away by shitting out Windows 8 as fast as possible AND make it cross platform with a cellphone line no one cared about and they failed again.

Plus computers got fast enough to run it (big problem at Vista launch), and there was now a proper driver ecosystem (also a big problem at Vista launch), and all apps got new versions that worked without UAC popups.
