>because.. BECAUSE you just CANT, OKAY!?

>secure messenger
>backing up chats
Is this a meme for normies or retards? Does the word ephemeral mean anything to you?
Every message must self destruct, no exception. Screencap something (don't!) or copy a message to a txt file.
Who the fuck archives their shit?
>reads text from gf from a decade ago and cries that she is with 3 children now
this is OP

Wdym? Signal has backup PIN.

(that makes them save ur data on their servers, but they claim to own nothing about users wink wink)
With a privacy policy last updated in 2018 wink wink

Use a serious app.

It's their service, and you and your friends and loved one (male) use it for free, maybe you should make your own platform if you don't like it?

Saving chats is fucking useless. You will never read them again + if something is important store it properly. Don't expect chat apps to be like safes lol

My childhood photos are in nature, not a secure messaging app. I'm too tired to look up your logical fallacy but it's of the type X != Y, does not equate, also non-sequitur for your next reply just in case

btw extreme black and white thinking is a sign of BPD
how are childhood photos part of your OPSEC? get help

This is one of the things I absolutely love about singal. In the age before facebook messages would disappear every now and then with regular intervals. A phone would break, be lost of just replaced and all the shit I said will be gone forever! NOT in the age of facebook. 15 year old chatlogs are still there, for all to see.

You can backup your chats with Signal. They are stored on your device and not on any servers.

>>106007281
The backup PIN is used for transferring Signal's settings, profile, contacts and blacklist, not your messages.
Signal's protocol is great and Signal leaks minimal metadata, the thing that is actually being collected by big tech. Signal is also most popular out of the privacy preserving apps, you need people to begin with for chatting and it's easier to get people on board if they've already heard about the app. Wide adoption also helps with privacy.
You can also use Molly for FOSS app with google push services removed.

Not anon but are you retarded? You just contradict yourself faggot. So it's means they store data about you without telling you? That seem sus. At least whatsapp tells you what they do on your data but this shit is next level CIA bullshit.

Still more than the nothing they claim about.
Transfer protocol is good, yes. But they are claiming something false

>it's means they store data about you without telling you?
Exactly.
It's little data, but they claim of storing NOTHING. Based on their old and never updated policy from 2018.
For an app that makes privacy first, its shitty behavior.
Other than that, they also frequently ban peopl from their forum that criticize Signal in any way.

>Notice that master_key incorporates c2 (256 bits of secure random data), so an attacker can not brute force it, regardless of the passphrase that was chosen.
if you think 256 bit is not enough, why are you even here. nothing will be secure by that logic.

this is actually true and the point
remember how even NFC is locked down on apple, you can read, but you cannot emulate tags. because they only want applePay to be able to emulate NFC tags

it's not really needed on desktop, because those files are easily accessible in user directory. still, they are encrypted and imo app should let me export everything in decrypted form to a secure storage.

Which requires replicating a chunk of code from Signal just to implement a feature which should be in there in the first place.

Needlessly hard because of not my usecase fags.

if i had the foresight to keep a computer running from the beginning of my use of signal it wouldnt be an issue. actually even then the desktop app stops getting messages after 2 weeks of not logging in so going on
vacation essentially deletes messages from my archive
