How!??? Look at the screenshot! If it isn't soulful, at least it looks great! >>106011374
So? They amazing. If I have enough power, it'd be worth it to sacrifice a little bit for looks. If I don't, I can just disable them.

Correct. Classic theme on XP was that last Windows GUI that looked good and did not negatively impact performance/utility. Anything else is cursed and pozzed.

Is there an easier way to install this? I tried once but got missing dependancy errors and it took ages just to get that far.

I think we just need to accept that the days of Common Controls / applications on Windows sharing a theme and UX patterns are over. Every application wants to stand out, be unique. In modern UI frameworks, it's often not even possible to use the OS widgets or at least lookalikes. Even Qt on Windows 11 now uses some completely made up nonsense theme by default now.
>>106013933 > Every application wants to stand out
The central issue stems from Microsoft's abandonment of win32 around the time of XP. They went heavy on .net and let native win32 rot.
>>106014193
Around XP, the .net applications used win forms which uses win32 widgets under the wood.
Then WPF and UWP happened and Microsoft got flooded by web devs and jeets.

I know win32 was used under the hood. The problem is they stopped adding new features to win32. It all ended up in libraries layered on top. Another example is gdiplus a user mode graphics library. It would have been nice to get modern graphics features in native GDI, but GDI was pretty much never updated again.

There is an automated install script for Arch, though you'll have to provide the copyrighted fonts yourself. I haven't used it myself, though: >https://gitgud.io/trev/Aero-Vista-ThemePlasma-Installer
But as for the manual install, >https://gitgud.io/wackyideas/aerothemeplasma/-/blob/master/INSTALL.md
At the top of the install.md is all the dependencies (and a command to install them all). Did you run that command? For Arch-based distributions:
sudo pacman -S git cmake extra-cmake-modules ninja qt6-virtualkeyboard qt6-multimedia qt6-5compat plasma-wayland-protocols plasma5support kvantum base-devel

os sucked, aesthetics can be ported or emulated while ricing linux. you were young when this os came about so naturally you are drawn to this UI for nostalgia, i remember it being terrible and couldn't wait to upgrade to a better flatter OS but didn't have the money to do so.
a friend with a mac laughed at me when i used windows vista in 2011. i got a 13" that year
