How Come Zoomers Don't Care About Privacy?
Did we fail the zoomer generation by not teaching them to value their privacy the way we were taught in the early 2000s? We grew up with Firefox at the forefront of anti-telemetry, with NoScrpt, AdBlock, uBlock, PiHole, Ghost addons. All of these privacy scripts got their start from the Firefox privacy gold rush. How come no one cares about tracking pixels and privacy anymore?

they understand what you dont :
you are unimportant, nothing, of zero interest or threat to the government.
you are hiding yet nobody gives a shit what you are doing or will ever do.

this. hiding your tracks makes you more suspect than just giving in.

this means it was a failure to teach
https://www.activism.net/cypherpunk/manifesto.html

>privacy is the power to selectively reveal oneself to the world
what one reveals constitutes their identity. By taking away privacy you take away the ability to fashion your own character. A mask is seared onto your face even if it doesn't fit.

this is why privacy is a dignity you afford to another human being.

Then why do they want my info so bad?
Anonymous No.106009599
It's worse than that. They're so easily whipped up into a frenzy over retarded culture war bullshit that they'll eagerly compromise themselves to anyone or any entity on the internet in the name of epicly pwning muh fascists/commies/joos/colonizers/whatever. Zoomer neo-puritans frothing in hysterics about tits on a screen might be the most annoying example.

It is fair to say that we failed them, but others failed us, too. One can hardly do much when everyone else just dumps their whole life on the web and "nothing happens". The consequences are so detached from the cause that you can't really blame non-savvy people for not noticing. And once the money flow started to pick up, even governments were reluctant to do anything. Besides, back in the day not sharing your personal info was a matter of "the web is a wild west" thinking; today, the (((good guys))) run sites that encompass a huge majority of total web traffic, and not being trustful of such enterprises means you're suddenly the odd one out. Even if you somehow reformed education to include strong privacy lectures, the kids would've been exposing themselves to the web unprotected for quite a few years before they get to sit down in such a class.

Yet they still track us.

Because all their options don't give privacy. You can't expect people to switch to a hardened firefox user.js and browse without javascript on a minimal linux install just to maybe reduce their online fingerprint. The war has already been lost. Every single electronic device spies on you in some way. Your fucking toaster now has built in analytics to see how often you're toasting bread. The only way to avoid any of this is to move into the woods without technology and even then some faggot with a drone will peep through your windows. Privacy as a concept isn't even intuitively understood by most people so they don't care.

Even as a zoomer I still have whiplash over this drastic narrative change. Probably concides with tech companies realizing how absurdly valuable peoples' data is once social media started catching on.

I don't care about feds I care about silicone valley faggots making more money off of me after the sale. I find it abhorrent that I can buy windows/amazon products/tvs and these faggots rape my data for money that I will never see.
Me and you are not the same

Many have used the phrase "data is the new oil". While not all of them might know what that really means, they aren't exaggerating. In fact, I'd say they're selling it short. There's so much power to be gained from it that fighting against it would require something like the nuclear non-proliferation treaty. And then everyone powerful would just do it more discreetly.

They were born in a world with little to no privacy, everyone is broadcasting all their personal details online 24/7. So zoomers just accepted the reality they were presented

Data is almost closer to land than oil. Like sand in a shin-deep estuary and whoever owns the most can clump it into a giant island and build resorts on top of it and shit.

so they can sell you more stuff. truth of the matter is if you use off the shelf hardware, you're already part of the system. the only guys truly "private" are crazed mountain hermits with no tech.

>everything bad is zoomers
Shitlennials are the ones who normalized this when they gave all their personal data to Facebook. Until then the #1 advice for someone from generation X using the internet was to assume everyone is a rapist murderer who will abduct and kill you if you post anything about yourself online. Zoomers are simply following trends set by their predecessors.

you should be striving for perfection even if its impossible. have you no prinicples? i should have the right to not be tracked on my own devices. its people with your weak defeatist mindset that led us to where we are now. you should always fight against any removal of your liberties, never know when you might need them
