It's a mobile chip in a desktop. It'll be fine for whatever you would expect a GPU-less laptop to be able to do. So basically just browse the web, watch videos and edit documents. I'm not knocking it either. I replaced one of my desktop PCs with a laptop connected to Monitor/Keyboard/Mouse and it's great as a side monitor/second PC. But I could never replace my main PC with it

I'm very tempted to get a minipc as my Linux programming machine (replacing the ancient mATX shitheap currently serving that role). Just some concerns about cooling and reliability holding me back.
IN THEORY this form factor really ought to be enough for basically any use case that isn't HEDT and doesn't involve a dedicated GPU.

Can't comment on your specific brand/model. These things are heavily shilled so it's really hard to get reliable info about which ones are good.

Not OP but...
according to passmark (I know it's a shit benchmark), the 8745HS is slightly faster than a desktop Ryzen 5 7600 in multicore and only about 3% slower in single core. It's dramatically faster than the 8700k I'm still using, which is still more than fast enough for everything I need it to do.
Am I missing something else that makes these laptop chips unsuitable for heavy (non-GPU) workloads? Or do you just have much higher standards than me about what chip a "main PC" should have (maybe you have a Threadripper or something)?

I bought an even cheaper one with a 6900HX. The issues i had were that the power brick was only 100W which means i can't max out the power budget, and there was no integrated bluetooth.
Other than that it works well for every game i play (in 1080p) and is decent at PS3 emulation.

It's about the same price as a base M4 Mac Mini, which makes for an interesting comparison.
Mac: Very fast CPU. 16GB non-upgradeable RAM. 256GB SSD, technically upgradeable but uses a special drive.
ser8: Slower CPU. 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, both upradeable with standard parts.

I'd never use one as a main PC. Ever. Just like I wouldn't use a laptop.

I have a i6700K 32 gigs 1070 GTX
I have a 7800X3D 64 gigs 7900 XTX

https://de.gmktec.com/en/products/gmktec-nucbox-k8-plus-amd-ryzen%E2%84%A2-7-8845hs-mini-pc

I got this recently because I have a OLED TV and I'm fed up with the options for connecting it and playing videos, youtube etc...
It runs about the same as my last PC if it had a 1060 GTX but mine costs like 340€ and honestly it's too much for what it is. These things are made for their price range and there always some compromise.

Mine compromised on power and cooling. Just make it 50% bigger and put a huge cooler on top I don't care. Make it even stick out like some hotrod. Big finstack with a fan.

The cheaper ones has tons compromises too. It's not dual channel ram so the GPU runs like crap. They put in DDR4 instead of DDR5 also makes the GPU run like crap. They skip out on the ports, they don't let it draw enough power, they don't cool it, they don't allow you even change ram because it's soldern on the board really a problem with the Intel N150 series.

My honest opinion is. The more expensive they get the less they're worth.
The Intel N series ones for like 150$ will give you the same capabilities in terms of normal non gaming usage as the one I got for twice the price and I then I had to buy RAM and SSD on top of it so it was like a Total of 500€

>N150 will give you same non-gaming performance for half the price
shit take. N150s have their place (QSV being main selling point), but are nowhere near as capable as eight zen4 cores with 780m GPU. These 7840/8845/8745hs chips achieve optimal price-to-performance

The beelink factory video recently uploaded to youtube was actually quite impressive, especially the case formation. It makes a lot of sense to make the case itself part of the aluminum heatsink, most of these chinese miniPCs have a plastic exterior case sometimes painted to look metallic.

The m4 CPU is actually the same as any budget CPU (same AI performance, same ram speeds, maybe the ram is 20% faster since it's soldered but the ram channels are the same), the igpu is decent but also about as weak as a steam deck or a decent AMD APU (like a 8600g, but obviously a dedicated GPU is going to 2-4x stronger).
You are probably confused because you have seen videos showing the m4 pro or m4 max, those chips are actually beastly (m4 pro is like a 4060, m4 max is like a 4070, I think, maybe in terms of AI?), but a m4 pro mac mini costs $1400 (24gb ram 512gb ssd, upgrade costs $200 more).
You could get a AMD AI max 385 minipc from framework which is around the same power as a m4 pro, but it's not that great for AI in my opinion when compared to a 5090 which runs 4-5x faster (but the 5090 would cost 2x more).

that's fine, no such thing as a bad product, only a bad price.
just remember that you can find a 12100 + h610 mobo on aliexpress for $120 (no igpu however, and to finish the build you would need a $200 of other parts and ideally a 5060 which is $300, but alternative used GPU's do exist below $100 such as 1660 super/TI).
also the 12100f is a slowish CPU, it's actually a gaming CPU because it performs unusually well in games (close enough to a 7600), but for productivity it's performs like a 4 core CPU, very power efficient but not much else (you shouldn't notice it unless you are doing CPU rendering with blender).

Thanks for the info... the price I've been offered is 150 GBP (~200 USD). My use case isn't well-threaded so decent single-core or dual-core perf is more important than having lots of them. I really want a small form factor too.

I don't get the purpose of this thread. My paranoia tells me someone paid for it, but I know this board is full of retards

You have schizophrenia. Mini pcs are becoming increasingly popular because of the price/performance/form factor. Normies will be all over them in a few months. The "gaming pc" is dying.

If they did, it's backfired. Most anons are recommending different brands from the one in the OP.
