What the hell happened to GNOME?
It went from the flagship linux DE to an unusuable laughing stock managed by incompetent narcissists. The version inflated too, how did they go from 2 to 40?

im convinced that 'they' are making shit as bad as possible just to see what people will put up with.

KDE sucks even more than GNOME

Except everyone using RHEL, SuSE, Ubuntu, Oracle, Fedora Workstation and Silverblue, Alma, Rocky, Chimera, Debian DE, Zorin, Bluefin and many others
>hamburger menus everywhere
(1)
>useless top bar
Literally the only ones that utilize it by putting controls there unline the SSD 'heres the title I guess, thanks for the pixels'
>use case for basic feature?
See first point, if your "basic feature" is so niche nobody cares about it then it's not basic
>uncustomizeable
I like to customize my desktop like I customize my body
>no minimize button
The default workflow doesn't include a dock where are the windows supposed to be minimized to?
>bargain bin mac aesthetic
Adwaita has been praised from developers of apple and Microsoft for it's superior aesthetics and uniformity. Breeze has borders everywhere like all it's users have ADHD and need to be reminded to focus
>not even used by its own devs
If that was true then gtk would work better outside of Linux but kdards always lie
KDE manager, Nate, was literally an Apple employee that got fired for being shit

Yep, Gnome is superior

This is the biggest problem, in my opinion. If one could write a succinct, feasible law that said "you have to use your own product", I'd be out on the streets yelling for it to be enforced worldwide.

I remember what happened, gnome 2 was peak performance but then they rewrote it from the ground up and changed the paradigm from desktop to "universal" so basically now you have a DE built for a phone, no one besides some hardcore fans liked this shift.

The old days you could customize the shit out of the panel, it was great experience and superior to the windows panel.
Window system was unopinionated to the point that you could run another Window Manager on top of it.
Their configuration applets where fine and their tools like gedit worked also fine.

I dont like Gnome so i may be opinionated, clinged onto Gnome 2 for 5 years past its deprecation, now i use a zombie system composed out of rofi, polybar and dwm, not the greatest and polished system but it works and its stable.

The paradigm change made it so that stable tools went unstable, gedit was a clear example of it, people value stability but for some reason they ignored it.
Then the lack of developers introduces a side effect, so because their tools where in constant change no one could keep up with them and thus the decision to strip features out.
Also you have the obsession over controlling the desktop they build, no change for people to customize it, they don't like it thus decision like adopting Wayland.
