This is often just a case of using the software for the wrong thing.
Software maintainers do have to be careful of scope creep, as well as providing 20 different ways to do the same thing when there is only one best way.
And probably they are tired of having the same discussion over and over again.
You truly want to change how the software works, then understand the philosophy behind the software, find past discussions, figure out what's so hard to implement it and produce an actual new argument why your use case is required instead of asking the same question the maintainers have heard 50 times before.
No, they're not always right, but maintain any even semi-popular software and you'll understand.
