it probably does make a tangible difference if you're playing at an extremely high level. but you aren't, and neither is anyone else hyping the shit. the pros who would potentially benefit are all gonna be playing on whatever they're sponsored to play on anyways.

there's a really good use case for hall effect when it comes to joysticks on controllers since the carbon contact pad in traditional joysticks wears out extremely fast and leads to inevitable controller replacement. HE joysticks don't really wear out, and that's why first party console makers won't put them in their controllers. but switches don't really have this issue, and are much more easily and cheaply replaced regardless.

Think of peripherals like gear. They have fixed stats that add on to your base stats that grow as you practice. It's just an advantage, but competitively what matters is whoever has even the slightest 3% gains over the other. Epic gamer analogy. Hope that helps.

You should probably invest in one of those ASUS gaming routers most of all, because ping is ultimately the final arbitrator if both players play perfectly.

it really is, though
they're outdated as shit, and it's not even like they're cheap, cheaper switches are much better at this point. blues sound and feel like shit, browns aren't tactile, reds are at least somewhat passable, mainly because it's insanely hard to fuck up linears, but I've heard people complain about them being rough, personally can't tell desu
they don't even have the recognition and reliable reputation that they had in the 2010's, gamers have moved onto HE switches, keyboard enthusiasts have moved onto brands like gateron, kailh, and outemu, turbonormies who buy a keyboard because they saw it on tiktok don't even know what cherry is

don't use words that you don't know the definition of, ESLbro. I didn't even know cherry made HE switches, but they're nowhere near popular enough to say HE switches are cherry switches. If you mean they are cherry switches as in their design, that's not true nor is it my point. The fundamentals of how cherry switches work aren't bad, cherry just has a really shit execution.

You were the one who said:
>insane that cherry switches are still the default for some boards
If you care about what words people use make sure you are clear about what you are talking about because just about every modern keyboard switch is MX which is a Cherry design. However I will concede that Cherry themselves don't do their own line of HEs specifically, I mixed up their MR switches which are slightly different in mechanism compared to true HE as far as I am aware. Now for the question at hand I think you are trying to ask with how HEs are not more popular: MX just werks.

The usecase of HE doesn't apply to the vast majority of mechanical keyboard users and is just an added complexity to keyboard production. We used to use HEs far more prior to MX and ALPs and we even had Rafi HEs modular switches for a while. But the manufacture of non-HE design switches won out with ALPs losing to MX due to having a short shelf life. Throw in the fact that the manufacturing infrastructure for MX has stood for 20+ years now and it is a pretty big paradigm to change in order to make HEs more common in keyboards as aposed to the far cheaper and plentifull MX.

When did Cherry lose its reputation for being reliable? That's news to me. Every batch of Cherry switches I get these days still has top 1% plate/pcb fit, zero defective switches, no contact bounce, etc. If I had to rely on a set of switches to last 5+ years of daily use I'd still bet on Cherry and I doubt I'm the only one.

you're misunderstanding what I said, I'm specifically talking about switches manufactured by cherry. If my problem were with switches that use metal contacts or MX-style housing, there are much better ways to clarify than just saying cherry
>>106035993
it's not that cherry switches are unreliable now, it's that other brands have caught up to cherry in terms of quality and reliability. Nobody calls non-cherry switches "chinese knock-offs" anymore, nor do you hear about these switches failing or having really bad QC. We're long gone from the days where brands like kailh or outemu were avoided because of their unreliability. I'm not sure it's still the case, but even if cherry switches are the best in terms of QC, the difference is so slight that its a non-factor for basically every consumer
>>106036036
I legitimately do not care about HE switches nor do I think they're ever going to replace metal-contact switches anytime soon, it's just a fact that HE switches are what's hot with gamers now

after deliberately avoiding gay mechanicals for many many years i think i may have to switch over. the catch is i need a layout like pic related which is what i use now (specifically the home/end/pgup/pgdn/ins/del keys arranged vertically). i use arrows instead of wasd for gaming. weird i know. when i was a teen and getting into FPSs, i had a similar keyboard with the same layout, that's what i got good on and i'm too lazy to switch. what i have now is fine, but every like ~50 keypresses of the arrows, they stick and always send me flying off in that direction.

there's already so few membrane keyboards with this layout, i can't imagine there's many mechanical ones with it but i figured i'd ask. i know i could technically build my own but i'd rather not.

On paper it's very based but I'm not sure I actually like how it looks. The G80 lip, the seam, the angled double f-row, the big bezels, it's all stuff I love, but when I look at this board it just doesn't do anything for me.

I'm already feeling pain imagining some redditor getting one and doing a 99% perfect build except it'll have a few ugly artisan keycaps on the top row that completely ruin it

Been using my Type-B now for a number of months. I know small form factor keyboards aren't that popular here, but this has seriously been one of the best boards I've used.

The black anodization is perfectly smooth, with no texture seams or blotching issues. The typing feel is a perfect balance between a firm and soft bottom out, with the soft flexiness focused on the spacebar. And the sound is great, with no foam or acoustic tweaks needed. It's a little more balanced towards the loud end, with a bright and poppy sound.
https://youtu.be/JrNO2xOSDas?si=hU-6vs34guHRHCaQ

Unlike the majority of HHKB layout boards, the Type-B follows the "true" HHKB layout with an assymmetrical bottom row with a 6U spacebar. Unfortunately this does mean that keycap compatibility can be a little cucked at times, but I do like the aesthetic of the larger right blocker. I might add an HHKB sticker there in the future. Also unlike most HHKB layout boards - including the modern iterations of the actual HHKB - there is a USB 2.0 daughterboard on the right side, with support for 2 USB devices. It's a good spot for a wireless mouse dongle.

For the mounting system, you have both a classic top mount and a "hot dog" mount, which is essentially just little gasket strips cut in a hot dog style which the plate sits on. The top mount is more firm and boomy, while the hot dog mount is a little softer and more full sounding. The screws on the top mount were unfortunately a little overtightened from the factory, but thankfully no strips.

I built it with Gateron Milky Yellows KS-3, lightly lubed with 205g0, and spring swapped with 55g TX Springs (M). I had originally built it with Cherry MX Blacks because I wanted that OG sound, but there must have been a factory defext with my switches as they had unbelievable binding on the bottom out. It almost felt tactile. Gateron Yellows never disappoint, though.

For anyone that's interested, there's still extras on Cannonkeys.
