My observations so far; rule34.xxx blocked bongs, e-hentai has a warning banner (but not sadpanda), twitter blocks "sensitive content" by removing it from your feed with no indication there was ever a post there (direct links and the media tab give you a warning), discord is blurring anything NSFW and won't let you open channels marked as NSFW.

A part of me thinks, why are they bothering with all this if we have things like VPNs and Tor, which make circumventing all this shite super easy and all these checks pointless? Problem is, once the laws making the Web an authoritarian trackable hellhole are in place, the next logical step will be to crack down on tools that can be used to circumvent these laws. We went from "don't reveal your identity online" to "only use your real name online" to (You Are Here) "identification is basically mandatory online". Once people get used to the idea that ID for Web is normal, they'll have no problem when the govt declares some of the major online privacy tools illegal - give it a decade or so. It's no good, man. The fact that chuddies are celebrating this like it's the second coming of Hitler, makes this whole thing even more fucked up.

Surprisingly they didn't block 2girls1cup. The beginnings of the internet and it's rich cultural history will live on.

Except that's not entirely true, many services block VPNs and Tor, and those that don't often still kick up a stink in other ways. Twitter/X for example, if you use a VPN on your UK account it won't remove the block since your account was made in the UK, which means you'll need to make a new account and provide a phone number for the region your VPN is set to. Discord? Log in from a new location and they'll ask you for a phone number too.

Yes, individual websites themselves can choose to go the extra mile for whatever reason they might have. Like 4chan blocking VPNs unless you have a pass, because your only identifier is your IP address. What I'm talking about is websites who will do the bare minimum to comply with the law, because they still want your "custom". Just like up until now, ISPs who have blocked "bad sites" like pirate bay or rt.com on their own DNS but did nothing to stop you changing your DNS. A minority of people will just close the tab and an even smaller minority will find a way to circumvent it. The problem is that I think the majority will submit to the ID checks and we'll end up with a Web where this kind of thing is the norm, setting the stage for the next step: targetting privacy tools.

This stupidity of ID checks may actually come back to bite them in the ass in an unexpected way. What do twitter, facebook, pornhub and Google have in common? The answer is money. They are here to make money. But if the ID thing makes it undesirable to use them this could result in a significant drop of users, leading to a loss of revenue. On top of that non-profit sites made by enthusiasts of this or that thing, be they imageboards or forums, will accommodate TOR and VPN's and users will just return to a more basic and amateur internet. The old Internet if you will.

Basically this could theoretically be the thing that kills corporate Internet. I'm a eurofag and I definitely wouldn't use YT or twitter if it demanded my ID and the same goes for other shit ranging from porn onwards. The ID thing is government overreach, censorship and authoritarianism and all of that shit needs to be killed dead. But it would be funny to see all those social media sites and so on bleed money and die once they realize people won't be suckered in.
