How do the ali keyboards compare to their logitech, razer, corsair counterparts?

>>106083563Wooting started that gay bullshit on their HE boards a couple years ago. Now every small-formfactor Epic Gamer Keyboard For Epic Gamers has to copy it to make it seem "hip" like Wooting's boards, like how every MP3 player and speaker manufacturer in the known galaxy had to copy the aluminum/chrome and white design language of the iPod line in the mid-2000s.

This hobby has gotten nutty to say the least.
I have lots of keyboards from places like Drop, KBDFans, AKKO, Keychron, Aula, 8bitdo, Varmilo, Redragon, Neo, Cycle, Qwertykeys, Zoom, Luminkey, Keycult, TGR Jane, Singa, Kohaku, etc.... every single one of them have had either PCB issues, cold solder joints, failed switches, failed sockets, failed LEDs, and or inferior/bad firmware and various bugs. You're trying to compare hobby toys with working reliable equipment. If you want planned obsolescence spicy pillow wireless creamy thocky keeby keebs then linears with lots of homo lube and stuff with all kinds of useless crap for sound deadening that no one in reality cares about. Of the hobbies I have keyboards are a very simplistic hobby and that anyone smarter than a monkey can do well. Maybe if you programmed a CNC for a metal case or used a CAD to design your own PCB, etc then sure that takes talent. I have plenty of KB toys from a $1,200+ KDBFans custom to several $600+ modded KB's which while looking good are still unreliable toys stuffed with with custom HiJenney artisan keycaps, GMK keycaps, so-called LOL "S-Tier" switches, or you name it. Gone through the rounds of waitlists, group buys not to mention the many 2-4 week slow plane from China deliveries because they don't use DHL. I under lube to error on function and I have a good lube station and I use authentic $50/oz Krytox by Chemours GPL 205. Also a good soldering station.
Examples of Keyboard issues:
Drop CTRL High: faulty solder points on PCB, Failure rate ~5% Holy Panda switches; soldered sockets and new keys
AKKO MOD 007V2: faulty PCB after firmware / subsequent AKKO Cloud software failures; replaced PCB after uploading a video to their engineering team
Keychron Q5: firmware bug in hybrid sleep powering on; discovered a workaround by re-flashing 2x in a row
KBDFans KBD75 V3.1 PVD: DOA PCB, Failure rate ~10% Tecsee Metal Coated Switches; replacements
ETC...
>>106085602My Keychron hasn't developed any problems. Granted it hasn't even had a year of daily use, and I didn't keep the stock switches, and I don't use wireless. But nonetheless... I have had no problems.
>>106085637>I if it was made after late 2023/2024 then it will.

>Re "whether the issues are the minority or if Keychron have serious quality control issues": My guess is that more than 50% of the Keychron keyboard produced in 2024 will, sooner or later, if used as the daily driver and not just causally, have problems with keychattering and missed keystrokes>It is only a matter of time, whether from day one, or after a few days, weeks, or months.>This is, of course, coloured by own experience. But there were far from that number of reports on this subreddit before 2024. Even with selection bias, that bias should also have been there before 2024. The absolute failure rate may never be known unless some large-scale experiment is conducted, but at least the failure rate is much higher.>NB: 2024 is for simplicity. There were a few reports before January 2024. >Re "has anyone else had this happen": Yes, 77 reported here and counting. Though it usually happens within the first few days, weeks, or months.>It is most likely due to cold solder joints (thus the only two real options are either warranty or a repair (by you or somebody else)), but here are some more isolation steps. Note that #9 may or may not be a somewhat overlooked cause (a list).>Changing the debounce time is treating the symptoms, masking a mechanical problem (and will only treat the double input). >The time for switch debounce has been set to 20 ms for these series, including for Q6 Max:>Q Max series>V Max series>But not for these series:>K Pro series>Q Pro series>K Max series>Presumably, they use the default 5 ms.
>>106085602>lube stationdidn't even know this was a thing. have you tried buckling springs yet? very happy with mine
>>10608569899% of these complaints are about double typing from Gateron Jupiter switches, which we've already all established in this thread are shit. That's why every newcomer is instructed to avoid the Jupiter Banana switches.
> These keyboards are faulty. I have bought and returned 4x V6 Max and they all have done the same thing you describe. Some right away, some after days, one after two months, but they all do it in time. Typing on one now (#5) that is only a week old and my numpad enter key only works reliably if I hammer it. Typing regularly it misses about 30% of the time and double presses maybe 10% of the time. If I press the top left of the key with moderate pressure (and depress it fully) It will fail to enter 100% of the time. So aggravating. Swapping switches sometimes helps but the problem lies deeper, either the sockets or circuitry/solder.
>At this point I have to find another keyboard brand and model, but the banana switches have spoiled me so I haven't found anything I like as much yet.
ok this one made me laugh
>>106085720That's been confirmed to be wrong.
>>106085474>9 year old videoI thought this was new tech
>>106085754Lol "confirmed" huh? I promise you those Jupiter Bananas will double type on any other QMK board that has the same default debounce timing.
>>106085741The RNG makes the keyboard more unpredictable and fun
>>106085761Hall effect keyboards are older than you. They've been around since the '60s.
>>106085778And why are they marketed now as some miracle tech
>>106085766How do you explain the cases where people have replaced the switches and the problems persist? Or the issues that are unrelated to switches, such as the keyboard dying suddenly?
>>106085783Beats me. What baffles me more is how the shilling focuses on "muh gayming" when the real advantages of hall effect (immunity to chatter, insane longevity) are seemingly out of the conversation.
>>106085794>insane longevitycoprophagic corpofags hate this. They'll find a way to make them last less than a rubber dome but NPCs will be ok with it because they'll add some wood chips and nigger pubes to make them sound thoccy and creamy
>>106085789>How do you explain the cases where people have replaced the switches and the problems persist? In these less common cases there may be a real defect, although usually they are still replacing the bananas with other very tactile switches, in which case default QMK debouncing is a bit unforgiving still.
I don't see a lot of people saying "after replacing them with Cherry Blacks, the problem persisted"
>>106085794need to get your hands on one of those old honeywell keyboards they made for the military. rated for nuclear, biological and chemical warfare use. could spill coffee on it and absolutely nothing would happen
>>106085839My perspective on this BTW is I have some Gateron tactiles which double-typed like crazy in another QMK board. Swapped them out for Cherry Browns, problem gone. There is almost certainly a problem with Gateron's tactiles right now.
I also have a Keychron V6 Max with Gateron Melodics, no double-typing problem after about a year. (Click tactility doesn't load up the leaf spring the same way, so it doesn't have the same effect on contact bounce)
Small caveat: I had problems with the Keychron when I tried using it on a weaker laptop once. I get the sense that system sluggishness + USB polling is a terrible combination. I don't know whether Keychron specifically was to blame, or whether QMK is, or whether USB polling just sucks (retvrn to PS/2...)

https://www.reddit.com/r/Keychron/comments/1j96iih/keychron_q6_max_spacebar_doublepressing/
>My V6 Max had the same issues. I replaced the switch and it stopped for a few days before coming back. Not sure about about Q keyboard design, but at least on the V6 I can easily toke off some screws in the back and open the back. I would suggest this because the PCB is right there and you can easily check for loose pins around the spacebar switch socket.>I've got an older (purchased January 2024) Keychron V3 Wired that's getting numerous double presses from the spacebar but also other keys seemingly at random; but the spacebar does it the most. This board is part of a rotation so during the year of ownerhip it hasn't seem much use.>It's had Durock T1s and currently it has Cherry MX Clears in it. The issue occurred with both switch types.https://www.reddit.com/r/Keychron/comments/1j374ag/comment/mg13svo/
this guy thinks it's browns that are to blame:
>Feels like it's likely a massive defective switch problem since it's kind of random (but persistent) keys around the keyboard, does everyone else who is having this issue have Jupiter brown switches?https://www.reddit.com/r/Keychron/comments/1jaynaz/keychron_q6_max_double_presses/
This one is interesting:
>I spoke to support, got all the custom firmware and it also did not solve the problem. I bought the Q6 Max with banana switches and I think the problem is their switches in combination with the PCB. I purchased Gateron G Pro 3.0 Brown's and swapped out the space bar switch and it mostly solved the issue. It sill double presses but it's seldom. I recently got a Ducky board and moved the Banana switches to that and the switches works fine. Keychron is sending me a new PCB as part of their RMA process, it doesn't look like they do full replacements. If you can get your money back go for it.
>>106085890Creamy steamy dreamy.
>>106085890>honeywell hall effect switchesyeah those are cool if you take care of your keyboard and don't store it in a garage for 30 fucking years
old hall effect keyboards like that suffer from dust that gets into the switches and ruins them and are like impossible to clean out
>>106085930>some of these cases are different, therefore the overwhelming majority featuring Bananas is meaningless>>106085946Durock T1 and Cherry Clears are both very tactile. I would adjust the debounce timing to be a little more generous if I was using switches like that.
The browns may very well be bad too, just to a lesser extent. They're still Gateron Jupiters and have the same housing or leaf spring or contact problem, whatever's causing it; they're just less tactile, so it should be a little less problematic.
>I recently got a Ducky board and moved the Banana switches to that and the switches works fine.Ducky may have different debounce timing. You can find posts where users complain about the slow debounce timing prior to a firmware update (that then caused key chatter... lol)
https://www.reddit.com/r/DuckyKeyboard/comments/uc8veq/ducky_one_3_fullsize_debounce_delay_issues/
Look, the short answer to all of this is: Keychron's keyboards switched from 20ms debounce to 5ms debounce when they moved to the Max series, so they could advertise more gamer-friendly latency stats. I don't know this for certain but I do know that when I was shopping for a keyboard the V series and the V Max series listed significantly different input response times, so I believe they made a change.
Since then there has been a huge spike in complaints, "defective boards", and returns, mostly due to key chatter. 20ms has long been an industry standard for a lot of keyboards, including "gamer boards" even, because it prevents people from making returns when switches are faulty.
Combine this with the fact that Gateron tactiles have been causing complaints recently and you can see how this might lead to a disaster for Keychron's "quality control" reputation.
No doubt there are also some defective boards, but I don't think that's what's happening in most of these cases.
>>106085783Because the custom keyboard market makes money from marketing slop to consoomers. Recycling old stuff is one such tactic
it's been 15 years of daily usage, I'm finally getting my first switch failures on cherry browns. They're soldered, replacing all of these is gonna take some hours. 2hrs if I'm lucky? or is that too optimistic?
>>106085783New software makes them more responsive
>>106086518To replace all of them?
Probably more than that unless you're skilled with your desoldering.
>>106086518Depends on what tools you're using to desolder them. It's an absolute breeze with something like a hakko FR301.
>>106085982i thought they're meant to be much more resilient though? if a keyboard is NBC rated it seems odd that a bit of dust would mess it up
>>106086527all 104, I'm not gonna replace 2 switches every few months for years
>>106086528hakko 888d, a silicone tip solder sucker, and chinesium solder wick. Idk which type of solder it is yet, probably leadfree? I can't remember how common leadfree was in 2010.
I've done plenty of soldering, these jobs are mostly about finding the right amount of solder to add so that it comes out cleanly with one stroke
What kind of job do i have to work to be able to afford this hobby
>>106086755Any. Unless you fall for memes like norbauer cases this is nowhere near as expensive as other hobbies. The last guitar I bought was roughly 5000 syrupdollars for comparison.
>>106086755i'm a run of the mill office drone making about 70k aud and bought the model f122 repro. aside from bills, the only other thing i really spend my money on is my car.
Reposting this from the last thread to see if I can get more suggestions. I'm looking for a new keyboard, and I don't know what I'm looking for except that I want something of decent quality. I currently have a Glorious Gaming keyboard, the model says it's a GMMK-BRN, but I think that just means it has brown switches. I like how solid it is, it doesn't move easy when I type or play games so that's nice.

Have you tried linear switches? Linears are more common, but f you've only ever used browns, linears might feel weird

>>106087735Keyboards are one of the easiest ways to learn by far. Desoldering is a little tricky at first, but soldering is VERY easy.
I taught myself to solder when I was 16 repairing cheap headphones, and I'm no genius. It's really no big deal.

I just fucking smashed my EPOMAKER 75%.
Switches started failing and double tapping after only 3 months and now, a year after purchase it got what it fucking deserved.
Can I get a recommendation please for something affordable that is NOT trash, preferably with tactile switches.
I don't need hot swap or wireless
>>106088650Just get something with QMK so you can extend your debounce timing when your tactile switches inevitably start double typing.

>I replaced the switch on the space bar, and that solved the issue, but it didnโt work for the up arrow. Through Reddit, I learned that the problem is due to cold soldering on the board. For some keys, I bent the pins and inserted the switch at a slight angle. This worked for some of them. guy 2

guy 1 confirms that the default for the new keyboards was changed to 20 ms and still lead to issues so he needed to increase it to 35:
>A friend of mine had exactly this same problem on the same model (Q6 Max). As a software engineer himself, he managed to download the QKM firmware, edited source code to change a "debounce" number from 20ms to 35ms, re-flashed the firmware and got it fixed permanently. I was talking and chatting with him along the way.
I don't have an endgame, I just have keyboards I have not bought yet.

>guy 1>At least it shows the importance of going back to the original state when claiming change X causes Y. An example of that would be changing switches when there is a problem with key chattering. Nothing can be concluded from that; for example, it could just as well have been the reseating that did it, not the new switches (that is, there may have been nothing wrong with the original switches; the problem may be with the hotswap sockets, e.g., oxidation (removed by the reseating), their switch leaves or their soldering (for example, cold solder joints)).guy 2
>I'm currently using a V6 Max ISOO Knob edition at the moment (edit: jupiter brown switches). SN reads "A-2404" but i received it in March 2025. I had issues with doublepresssing on spacebar initially, then one or two keys here and there. I got intouch with Keychron and after testing swapping a few of the switches aroundd, they sent me a "30ms" and "50ms" firmware to flash,, which i assume were debounce variations? Flashed the 30 aand siignificantly improved the issues- though didnt fix it entirely. guy 1 again
>Three months in, and the keyboard now has the dreaded symptoms!>It started a few weeks ago, with occasional double input for PgDn (one of the most-used keys). It has become worse over the past few weeks, but I still can't consistently reproduce the problem. But it is sufficient to make experiments to isolate the problem, with a time window of, say, 24 hours (or longer), as it is very noticeable when using the keyboard as the daily driver.>A wireless mode. It is equally bad in wired mode.>I think that this is justified. It is not known what the specification is for the switches, but they are probably not far from the original Cherry specification of 5 ms. The 2 ms was only to show that Keychron's 20 ms was not necessary.>The theory would be that the bounce gets worse as a switch ages (including being used), but it still stays within 5 ms.>The "dreaded symptoms" may be too pessimistic. The experiment continues using the QMK default debounce time of 5 ms.guy 3
>I replaced the e with a spare switch and that solved it there (for now).guy 4
>Looking carefully, it seems that if I press with immense pressure the area of the problematic keys, I will feel a โclickโ and then they are back to working. The problem is that after a few minutes, same thing happens, then after pressure and click gets fixed, and so on so forth. My suspicion is that this โflexibleโ gasket setup is not designed properly, and when it gets slightly bent due to installing or removing switches, then it will never be the same again. Or in other words, probably itโs a bad idea to have at the same time flexible gaskets and hotswappable switches.

>Keychron V6 max with banana tactile switches> So I purchased some switches and started replacing them. And it worked! For a day. Then the weirdest thing happened, the problem spread like a virus or something, I replaced the "I" then the "K" stopped working, I replaced the "K" switch, then after half an hour the "J" stopped working. In less than a day I replaced half of the keyboard's switches And... it stopped, no more misfires. Was happy for a day then the "K" key stopped working again. Replaced the switch twice, nothing.>So I opened the keyboard up only to find out that the small piece which is soldered on the PCB and closes the circuit (looks like a small bridge) where the pins of the switch touch when pressed down, has gone loose.see pic
>We are talking about days, not months! I've never in my life had such a bad experience, even with cheap a$$ keyboards>The PCB flexes too much in the middle, the plastic parts cannot withstand a lot of pressure and the switches tend to stop working with no apparent reason and the bridges at the back of the PCB suffer from the cold joint problem.guy 2
>I don't think that the flexible PCB is the problem because this has also been reported on the K3 which is tray-mounted.>It stopped because you're mashing the sockets into the PCB solder pads with the cardboard. There is now contact where there should be for the keyboard to work properly. The flexible PCB isn't the cause of the problem, but it exacerbates it, because flexing causes the already-inadequate solder joints to separate from the PCB. This is definitely a QC issue that Keychron needs to address.

>>106104633>Cherry Gold Crosspoint SwitchesI feel like there is no significat different in switches beyond the following:

Brown- tactile (bump)

>>106102361Cherry MX situation is kinda weird, Enthusiasts love them but tourists hate them
You can confirm this easily by looking to low-end keyboard reviewers, most of them hate Cherry while ones with very expensive keyboard love them so fucking much

Trying to couch this as I'm just a "CONSOOOMER" is retarded and just shows again that you lack any real argument.
All you're basically saying is if people don't treat this hobby the exact same way you treat it, they're wrong and CONSOOMING for the sake of it. Discounting any possibility that someone just likes trying out new switches, or enjoys changing their switch style every few months/years.
Hell it can be as simple as buying a keyboard for an isolated office environment but then getting moved into a cubical where you've got lots of people nearby so you want to swap to switches that are much quieter.
Why should I have to buy a whole new keyboard for this just because YOU think hotswap is some chink conspiracy to make you consooom.

Hello Hombres,
My Black Widow that I got in 2010 (vor virtually free) died and I'm in the market for a new one.
I primarily use it for gaming, but also for work, so TKL won't be an option.
I tried to do a bit of research myself, so the Keychron Q6/Q5 are probably solid options, but I want to have some feedback here. The fact that the keycaps aren't illuminated pisses me a bit off, asme with the price when HE's keyboards are around the corner, but not really available for me. My goal is to have another keyboard for 10+ years until it breaks. I'd have less of an issue if I could simply go and TRY OUT some keyboards, but every store I got to has the same basic bitch Logitech, Corsair and Razer ones.
>Budget: up to 300 bucks

>I don't care, but if they're silent, and still feel nice, the better. I'm aware that this affects pretty much all switches compared to my current Cherry MX Blue
>: 100 or 96%
>Backlight. I'd like some keyboard that looks nice. also see-through caps are great - but I don't care about deeper customization. I usually just do a flat colour.
>Gayzer Black Widdow Ultimate
Bonus info: I don't have a palm rest currently, so if the keyboard needs one, please say so. I heard the Keychron ones especially are elevated as fuck.
Not sure if this is the best place but I use a 8bitdo leverless and I'm looking for quieter button caps. I have silent switches already (kailh deep sea mini silent) but a new leverless I bought is much louder
How is DURGOD as a brand? The name kinda reminds me of Durgasoft. I was looking at the Taurus K320, like the form factor and no frills nature of it. People say it's very durable and reliable. I want something that won't break on my in 5+ years

>>106120202I like the look of raptor extremes but I don't even think I need speed linears

This is what existing before the mouse was invented does to a mofo.
I'd love to own a mk, but I don't because I refuse to pay the huge markup just because "it's mechanical!". I'm typing this comment on a decades old Logitech K120 that's even missing some keycaps, that cost me, what, 10 bucks? But you're telling me I can't find a ultra basic key caps set for under $20 because...? "Hey, this Ducky is tacky but doesn't look that bad, how much is it?" $125? Go duck yourself.
The scene is completely nuts, there's no space left for people who just want to type on a mk, it's all about exclusivity, "the endgame", limited editions, artisan caps... Bullshit. There's no "mechanical K120". There's no room left for full sized, affordable, practical, run of the mill, "Ford Model T" mk. So thanks, and good riddance. I'll just buy another K120. I could pay $20, even $40, for "a good feel", but it's not worth $100.
Imagine the same scene on mice. "Hey, are you tired of your ball mouse? Want an optical mouse? Well, the technology is cheap, but we're going to charge you $120, just because!!"
I don't want a mk as a hobby, I want it as a tool. But it looks like we're incapable of conceptualizing a mk as a tool. Sorry for the rant, and pardon my French.

>>106122373I used to work for a company that would convert old green screen applications into web apps. In nearly every case, the people who had been using those systems for a long time hated the new web app because it took so much more time to do anything. The green screens loaded up quickly and buffered keystrokes so for certain workflows, they could get several screens ahead of the monitor even if the screens loaded quickly. That's not doable with a web apps, or at least not using standard development patterns.
Even though the old systems worked well, management wanted a web based replacement because it was easier to train new (low cost) employees on it and made the company less dependent on long term employees. The web apps were also easier to maintain since there's no shortage of web devs but people who can write green screens, usually in something like COBOL or Sculptor, are expensive and booked up well in advance.

>>106128202My primary use case is workstation oriented and not gaming, so that is a needless layer of complexity. But I can't stand the feel of membrane multimedia office keyboards. Something like
>>106112417 is a step in the right direction but I'd still like more buttons.
>>106127060>silent redsLast time I checked those out you should be golden with anything that uses those
Even regular reds seem pretty quiet to me for mechanical keyboards, of course they aren't going to compete with those silent scissor boards but they are pretty reasonable
Depends on the noise profile you want too though, the harder impact sound going through might have too much bass for you to not feel some manner of fatigue for example
>>106081789 (OP)is it possible to change the language layout of a keyboard?
all the commercial keyboards are always US layout and my language was different keys. Like the left shift and the enter key are different.
Why do 99% of Mechanical keyboards have two start key but only one Fn key on the left? Who even uses the left Fn key? Who the fuck need two start keys?
>>106129090I use both start keys. I don't use the right side alt or ctrl.
What happened to WASD keyboards? I loved their caps. I still have two sets in perfect condition. Other keycap manufacturers just can't get the tolerances correct.
>>106128935They're called ANSI (US) and ISO (Euro). Some custom keyboard PCBs have sockets for both ANSI and ISO, but aside from that if you want your native layout you're stuck with finding an ISO layout keyboard and most likely buying separate keycaps.
For compatibility, avoid keyboards with nonstandard bottom rows: stick to 1.25u+1.25u+1.25u+6.25u+1.25u+1.25u+1.25u+1.25u only.
>>106129090Who cares, you can remap those on any decent (QMK) keyboard
>>106126706>>106128316unicomp m122/model f122?
the model f122 repro has a more modern keyboard layout but it's not cheap at all
they're both rather noisy too so if you're working around other people that'll be a problem
>>106131966Wow $5 off? What a deal!
>>106132009In case you missed the 5 DAY group buy period, you can pay a little more for extras. In-stock extras? No, of course not! Pre-order extras!
>>106129090uh
what keys are you even talking about
>>106132113he's talking about the windows keys that'd otherwise be in the blank spots of the model m
seems like some keyboards would stick an Fn key there too but i've never seen them, only on the right side.
>>106130119>unicomp m122/model f122?I was thinking just that, but man it would be nice to have that many keys and still have something like red switches.
