even normies want in on it now

Yeah, I might be a bit too late. enterprise hard drives have already skyrocketed in price

okay, based, but how do we capitalize on this?
I think we should welcome this with open arms, clear and properly written wikis, articles and behaved forum discourse.
Our community must " oh you have noobtier problem XYZ, you're not smart enough" behaviour out of the window permanently and ostracize it overnight. Even here on /g/, probably

you need to look at it from an economic standpoint. add up all the years of subscriptions, hosting fees, you will own nothing and be happy level of corporate raping, it's far cheaper over the long term to just set up a massive raid array and host your own shit, and when you have connections these days for the home at 1gbps+, easy stuff. in a way this jewry with ID and whatnot is going to bring on the rebirth of p2p file sharing on a much larger scale than ever before.

The problem is these people are uneducated and typically buy either shitty old systems that take too much power or take overpowered systems they will never need that take too much power.
N100 - N305 will do what 70% of what people need while not raping the power grid because it operates on the same wattage as most routers when not under serious load.

Who needs enterprise hard drives when a 4TB SSD is <$200? Normies don't need massive hoarder drives, they either all watch the same handful of shows anyways, or they'll make room for new stuff by deleting stuff they've already watched. Only mentally ill people like myself need massive >32TB storage servers.

i think it might be perfect opportunity coming to sell systems that retards can use without a CS certificate while still having ludicrously large storage space and fast connectivity over lan. some of the software for managing this shit is kinda retard resistant in current year. who wants to give me money to start milking normies?!

Why would anyone, including normies, pay $200 dollarydoos for a 4TB SSD when an enterprise drive gets(GOT) you 12 TB for 80 bucks?

It's not 2019 anymore, anon, and normies obviously will buy SSDs because "muh quiet" and "muh speed".

That exists already and is called Zorin OS. It's not bad to be honest. There is also a free version of Zorin, which is a base install without apps and many of their (pretty) nice themes.
I went in with a huge hate because paid, but it genuinely a better user experience than any other distro.

I got some minipc with a celeron and 4GB ram. It runs adguard, unbound, nextcloud, kavita, jellyfin, some static sites and a few other things. As the only user it is never under a heavy load. The power consumption is so low it's not even noticible in my electric bill. When I was first gaining interest in a server, seeing everyone complain about energy cost and spending thousands on equipment I didn't think this <$200 pc would be usable at all. But it seems like unless you're actually trying to host things for others, running LLMs, or you're trying to run a lot of VMs there's no need for anything more.
The only reason I plan on getting something else is for more is to build a smaller NAS since the pc doesn't have any drive capacity.

That's what I did got a odroid H4 ultra for it's extra cores and not being Chinese and converted it with the ITX kit and made it my home server with proxmox. All my solutions are handled without issue and it sips power. Unless you need some crazy workload most of these things will do just fine on 1-2 cores

>self hosting as a response to digital censorship
like what the fuck is it supposed to mean? he won't self host his own social media, he won't selfhost his university homepage, he won't self host youtube
at best he can hoard movies, books and hope he got enough terabytes to do it
and you don't need a rack server for that

The second age of piracy is upon us.
So it'll make sense that normies will want something to save all their booty on, including the benefit of being able to watch on any device on the network.

Used enterprise hard drives will crap out constantly yoiu may as well use new SSDs they are faster and work just as well in a fibre disk array but you will have to do raid anyway.
