Untrusted websites (e.g. most of them besides Google itself) are forced through a proxy server that decrypts the original TLS connection to check the data and re-encrypt it back using the special certificate, effectively working as a MitM.
Of course, it's very unlikely in the case you just connect to your work Wi-Fi with no additional steps, but it's a thing.
