Proton moves away from Switzerland, into the EU
>Lumo represents one of many investments Proton will be making before the end of the decade to ensure that Europe stays strong, independent, and technologically sovereign. Because of legal uncertainty around Swiss government proposals(new window) to introduce mass surveillance — proposals that have been outlawed in the EU — Proton is moving most of its physical infrastructure out of Switzerland. Lumo will be the first product to move.
>This shift represents an investment of over €100 million into the EU proper. While we do not give up the fight for privacy in Switzerland (and will continue to fight proposals that we believe will be extremely damaging to the Swiss economy), Proton is also embracing Europe and helping to develop a sovereign EuroStack(new window) for the future of our home continent. Lumo is European, and proudly so, and here to serve everybody who cares about privacy and security worldwide.

I'm absolutely left politicly and it's still ridiculous how hard they crack down on just certain right wingers that seem to actually have the balls to challenge them. The trucker protests got shut down the second they started to become a real problem. The rest that are just larping as opposition are still getting by just fine and those are the people I'm talking about. If you don't rock the boat too much you marginally have more rights on paper today than you did back then and apparently that's good enough for people.

EU out of all places? Why?

with EU having a stronghold on digital privacy and forcing companies like apple to give them a backdoor to encryption and other mass surveillance state activities, it seems like a terrible move.

remember, Proton coughed up the IP of a French activist while on ProtonVPN. if they wanted to be transparent they would publish examples of what they give up when you're hit with a legal request like Signal.

LLMs fail to do basic arithmetic at scale.
But they weren't designed to do that so I don't think it's fair to judge it based off that.

They still fucking suck at basic instructions and following them. They also need to be explicitly told everything, unable to infer or evaluate from context.

Actual AI applications in medical research fields are a massive boon though, like uncovering genetic markers and their impacts on pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics.

You're only hearing about it because the media either refused to cover the story from 2 years ago or they misrepresented the dire situation from 2 years ago when Musk bought twitter to stop the censorship cartel. Media will lie 24/7 to advance politics. So whatever you hear from reddit, believe the opposite and you'll come out more information on reality.

In truth, this fight has been going for for few years. There are multiple lawsuits from X and some other freedom/privacy respecting groups (Not any of the tranny leftist groups), against US gov, against GARM, against Ireland, against UK, against India, against Turkey, against EU, etc. They just dont want to report on it.

Just few days ago, Ireland claimed that censorship of posts on social media is legal in EU code against a challenge from X. This is a landmark decision from Ireland and by proxy EU, but none of the leftist media will report on actual court fights

It's not guaranteed of course but there might be a slim chance. And if the UK one is changed, hopefully it'll influence the other similar acts other countries are pushing.

The funny thing is Hanlon's Razor is kinda true in this case, because the media aren't necessarily malicious liars when it comes to politics (not saying there are no hacks out there), but they're utterly lazy and just report government media releases as 'the news' and not bother doing anything even vaguely resembling investigative journalism.

Only a few idiot luddite boomer Germans, and the totalitarian police-state slanted Hungarians in bed with Orban. And they're opposed by pretty much every other country recognizing that cryptography as a technology is a house of cards that you can't and thus don't fuck with in any way or the entire thing comes falling down.

You're perhaps confused with the UK. Which - since they left the EU - has been doing a banging decent job at outpacing the Hungarians at becoming the next European totalitarian police state. The UK actually HAS been meaning to put a ban on cryptography since ... I want to say at least the past two decades?
