That's great, but now let's try a configuration that I might actually want to use.
Going from 16->32GB RAM and 256GB->1TB SSD is only about +$100-$150 in extra parts, so I'm sure the price uplift will be reasonable. I know there's an "apple tax" though, so let's say $200. Oh, and the non-base model might not have that 20% discount. So in the very worst case the higher spec will cost about $1200, right?
>$1800

They raised the minimum specs to 16GB in the last macbook air release. But also raised pricing kek I have a 16GB from my job but I still see a lot of swap, I don't want to imagine how much swap the 8GB M1 models with 128GB SSD that has been on sale for years do.
>>106131413
It is worth it if you go outside a lot and need a reliable battery, which macbooks have. I got assigned one for work at least I don't have to be worried about finding an electric outlet for 8 hours straight. Their wifi is good and the air models are very light. They are meant to be adaptable which suffice for most people, for anything that requires real performance, they suck at it, but I ssh into my server or use my hosted services and I'm done.

If you're actually using 32gb of memory you're probably doing some serious professional work in which case that's not excessively priced desu

I doubt you'd actually use it though. Most of you are just idiots who think you need 32gb of RAM to open a few Chrome tabs because "unused RAM is wasted RAM"

"but you cant run ..." isn't the reason why macs are bad, they are bad because its the shittiest and most broken UNIX-like OS you can find, theyre proprietary, theyre literal e-waste, and they break after 1 month if you look at them wrong.
everything i use would probably run on a mac if i installed X11, but i would still not touch any apple products with a 10 foot pole.

Do you don't even know what the hell are you talking about kek and you're throwing out word like you understood them. Are you using non proprietary hardware? Does your kernel lack the proprietary blobs the official linux kernel does? MacOS and Windows solved their display server issues way before wayland was even a thing, ofc is not going to be running X11 or wayland, developers will have it ported to whatevere macos uses on both x86_64 and ARM, and you can install most shit with homebrew anyway.

my poorfag chinkpad has 4 times the amount of ram, 4 times the amount of storage (not counting the potential for upgrade here because I'm being nice), has comparable battery life, a nicer keyboard, trackpad with buttons, a 1080p screen with much less ghosting that doesn't need garbage scaling to be usable, and easily available parts to repair it in case it ever breaks, unlike the fagbook that will get destroyed by dust and whose ssd will destroy itself due to aggressive swapping
the only part where the fagbook wins is raw power, which is nice, sure, if you need it that is. I don't, if I want to do more demanding tasks I have other machines more fit for the task

Depends on what you're looking for. Emulating on Mac is quite good so you could say that the library of good games is almost infinite in that regard. There's also some high profile native releases like the newest Assassin's Creed, Cyberpunk 2077, Dead Island 2 etc, but your options will of course be more limited than on a PC or a dedicated game console. If you're into popular goyslop like Call of Duty, Fortnite, PUBG and so forth you might be out of luck. I don't know about those however since I'm a single player kind of guy myself.

When it comes to something like Cyberpunk 2077 I'm actually really positively surprised how playable the game is on my M1 Pro MacBook and how silent and cool the laptop runs in clamshell mode. Newer M-SoCs are more power-hungry so maybe that's not a thing anymore with the newer machines.

Is that a reasonable thing to say? Why not be productive and work on projects u enjoy instead? You seem really upset at the existence of an affordable Unix workstation. Or you are just saying things to try and fit in. Lack of critical thinking in general.

Apple is gay and their entire business model is selling you garbage that requires you to become an indentured servant to Steve Jobs in order to use the basic functionality of it, for a premium price.
There is not one usecase for purchasing a Mac unless you already got scammed into buying an iPhone and just can't get enough of the taste of shit.

They're vastly inferior. Not unusable, but you'll notice a difference almost immediately. Way shittier to use as well - those are tools that fit for iphone / ipad, not a full blown computer.

Not even close. All apps like that suck ass because of how apple's APFS works. It's simply impossible to have blazing-fast file finder like Everything that won't struggle with millions of files and searches them almost instantaneously.

air is pretty underpowered desu. 256gb is unusable. 16gb ram is fine but you'd probably want 24 or more
I'd set my eye on the m4 pro with the better chip, which conveniently has 24gb ram and 512gb ssd. Buy used if poor, you'll barely pay more than what 512gb air costs and it's significantly better in every way except for the weight (but you're not some 100 pounds skellington so it shouldn't matter... right?)

Hardware bloat excuses software bloat. It's good that Mac doesn't chase gigs cause it means they optimize their OS better. I can confirm, as an owner of both. There is literally nothing outside of top end graphics games that need 8g of RAM in 2025. We are being swindled.

Macbooks are the biggest pieces of shit in existence, they are fragile, uncomfortable, have terrible keyboards, a mediocre screen, no function keys, bad compatibility with alternative operating systems, and have a terrible default operating system (though still better than Windows). Do that and watch the price sky rocket. I would rather Apple install no SSD and use standard M.2 NVMe drives and I can install my own but that would make too much sense. Apple can't make computers anymore.
