Why can't someone just make a P2P network thats as fast as torrenting and is encrypted. It can't be that hard right?

A website over torrent might work, but how do you add things to it? Torrent is just static files.

Because a Peer to Peer network's speed depends on guess what?... the peers...crazy right?

How would encryption even work? There's no central server to authenticate with. Any encrypted yet truly p2p would have to share the private key file to facilitate decoding from new peers, what's stopping your ISP from doing this too?

Zeronet was really cool actually until it got flooded with spam. That's the biggest issue facing decentralised p2p systems. It's far too easy for a bad actor to ruin the whole thing.

Yeah because the concept is fundamentally retarded exactly because no one in their infinite wisdom ever thought about bad actors when designing p2p networks.
>but torrents
Most torrents are dead. If you don't grab a movie near release a few years down the line only 400mb shit encodes remain seeded. Less popular shit only survives if there's some autist that keeps it in their client because they overlooked it in two thousand other torrents. Then there's private trackers which are a whole other can of worms. And before anyone copes I'm in private trackers myself, they still suck ass regardless.

>Most torrents are dead.
not him but this statement is only technically accurate. like sure objectively speaking taking all torrents ever made into account, most of them will be dead. but that's like saying "most internet hyperlinks are dead", which is also true for similar reasons
torrents, especially of media, tend to be superseded over time, like perhaps all the dvd rip torrents of a movie are dead, but it's probably because there's a bluray torrent which everyone moved to

yeah that'd be swell and all, but it's actually a 1.2GB x264 yifi rip with V:10 A:10 quality, thanks yifi(or whatever scene is now churning that slop out)
Also that video game torrent that you want? I'm hope you're ok with fatnerd raping your wangblows with god knows what he does with that godawful repack

i don't disagree that the most popular torrents of movies are the smallest, shittiest rips, but that has always been the case. remember axxo?
>meanwhile the gog installers and updates are dying with 3 seeders
i ran into that as well, before i discovered that there's gog pack torrents with tons of gog releases which are better seeded versus individual games

I'm assuming you're some kind of retard with a single torrent site if the best you can find is literal 400MiB rips for movies more than a few years old.
