And I used to solder a lot back when I played with arduino and raspberry pie shit all the time, but I moved more towards working with game engines and learning 3d modeling, so I don't touch electronics much anymore.

None of those technologies are new. He is describing a phase young people go through where they performatively try on identities until one sticks. A lot of people try to adopt an identity, not because they want to be the thing they identify as, but because they want to be seen as the thing they identify as. A lot of times, these performances lead to nothing. There is a solid chance the guy in the OP image just went on to be some kind of tech wagie, and if you get turned into a web developer by life circumstances, things like soldering will just be useless to you. As life adds more obligations, some of those things are stripped away just because there is less time on the clock overall, and less of that time is free time. It is kind of natural to look back and view them as a youthful waste of time. It is also natural for young people currently in the performative identity phase to claim it totally isn't a phase and is in fact who they really are.

I been an electronics enthusiast from highschool, got bachelors in EE and did few projects on my own, landed an internship in electriconics engineering supercar R&D thinking it would be nerd heaven and then when I openly asked questions to a girl who did CAN bus programming if her server/client solution on FPGA how many clients could she simulate on such a small memory space she got prissy because I "embarassed her in front of the team" when it was obvious she couldn't code for shit and only got 10 sensors to work as a client on her development board.

Most of tech is saturated by people who don't care about it, they use highschool level social bullying tactics and if money wasn't good then they would do something else entirely

The only real nerd people who actually congregate and revolt against this is the hackers, but even they grow out of it after a while

It's ultimately misguided because the way forward is THROUGH not back, technocracy allows for anyone skilled enough to take power over the mediocre masses through technology, just like gun did or other weapons. Anyone who wasn't just a simple corpo drone understood how his tech skills could better his everyday life by using it to revolt against the modern world. I myself earned a lot of money and power by using tech for my advantage without being a corpo drone
