The downside is that a lot of software will add hard dependencies on systemd without thinking twice and your software will break as a result. But of all the systemd-free distros, it seems the most supported and that will probably only get better with the adoption of postmarketOS

The catch is every fucking shell script is broken and never works in alpine.
> gcc
All distros should come with pcc, renamed to โ€˜ccโ€™ instead of that fucking gcc bloatware.
And only in the architecture it needs.

Donโ€™t get me started on alpineโ€™s predilection for โ€œbusyboxโ€ โ€” one of the most ill-conceived things of our time, along with systemd and wayland.

It's already "split" retard.
Use Gentoo or LFS, and build mesa without llvm.
Note: intel and amd mesa drivers hard depend on llvm now. Blame the mesa developers.

Can confirm this, its never going to be a desktop OS, as hard as they try it just keeps breaking for desktop use because its a server OS first. Everytime i have used it, i get segfaults on random programs. Firefox, display managers, terminals, file managers, video and audio players. Made by trannies for trannies who like to tinker and fix shit that cant be fixed. Just use Artix linux, it works and is tranny free.

anyway the catch is they made other choices you probably won't like (like their plans to drop x11, wayback development was started by some of the alpine team after all)
i am making the above assumption based on how a lot of people do things as part of hivemind

i do NOT use or avoid software based on political or personal views, but that doesn't mean i'm oblivious to how that affects the software. i would have assumed xlibre would be a good fit for alpine, but we're just not allowed nice things these days

>what's the catch?
troon took over leadership and harrassed the most prolific package maintainer (just because he was white) so he left.
debian, void, nix and alpine have all fallen into troon hands and it's going downhill every fucking time
>debian
mass exodus from maintainers, many CVEs are never patched, they explicitely tell white men to fuck off regularly especially at conferences like debconf or fosdem (i've seen myself it irl)
>void
main lead had his wife left him and she actively tried to ruin his life just because. he left and troons took over, they fucked the forums by banning people, they took down many docs and banned contributors for no reason (typical woman behavior, don't look for reasons, there are none 99% of the time when they act evil)
they shilled for furries on the main website and banned people who though it was innapropriate
>nix
the forum mod team didn't like the fact that the lead was not american living in california so they planned an hostile takeover threatening to ruin the project and the creator life if he didn't leave by himself (he did as he is a good person and did not want to fight)
many maintainers were bullied and forced to leave too, they took down many doc pages for no reason, the overall stability of the distro went down and it's now a circlejerk distro where everyone is masturbating in a circle doing nothing
>alpine
a group of troons didn't like the way alpine was packaging some things because it slowed down their container startup so they went to the forum and threatened one of the core member of the distro that he has to fix it, or else (typical freaks "pacifist" behavior btw), he wasn't concerned but he was white so...

I hate troons you have no idea, it's not enough to ruin their bodies they have to ruin everything that non-freak enjoy...
it's not normal for barely 0.000000001% of the population to be so toxic and prevalent in dramas, normal trolls aren't a tenth of the toxicity of freak under estrogen.
