Biggest problem is that the outworld isnt glued, it's just sloted together and held there with rubber bands. Looks like the one you're looking at has the same problem. If you do end up buying that one, I would highly recommend gluing the outworld together before you have a big problem later down the line. I would also question how hard it will be to heat that setup if your ants need heat.

Actually it doesn't, or kind of doesn't. The parts are screwed together with screws, with two exceptions, the backside of the "outside arena" and the lid. I don't think it matters for the lid, but I will give the backside a test and if it can come apart I'm gluing it. The way it's slotted makes it look like it might be fine, but I'm planning on keeping them indoors and don't want an ant colony in my room ideally.

Good reminder, but I got a super standard Lasius niger queen, just the normal stuff that lives here anyways, so chances are no external heating needed. I might get into cooler ants later, but I wanted to get my feet wet for now. I also own a heatpad for my plant seedlings, so I can put that under the arena if needed, that should penetrate some thin acrylic.

Do you keep your colony covered? That's the most critical part I think since it's all acrylic, so I'm considering if I want to 3D print a shrowd for the hive, or put it in a cupboard or put some cloth over or something to give them darkness when I'm not actively observing.

i got the base model no attachments

+ it's lightweight
+ usb-c charging
+ the head comes right off so you can wash it under running water
+ close shave for now but this is because i'm already clean shaven and this thing is new

I bought them because I lost my pixel buds pro (or had them stolen) so those are my point of reference.

Overall I'm thoroughly impressed.
Audio-quality is great. It's close enough to the pixel buds that I can't tell much of a difference, but I'm also not an audiophile and just care if things "sound decent".
Ergonomics are also great. Feel just as safe in my ears and just as nice to wear as the pixel buds.
Pairing and connection seem great as well, will have to stress test a bit more to make sure.
In terms of case, I'd say these are better than the pixel buds. The case is smaller (much nicer to wear in your pants pocket, the pixel buds were always a little too large). The only thing is it's not super obvious which one is left and right when you slide it in, but that may get better with time.
Passthrough and ANC are impressive. I can't do a 1:1 comparison because as I said I lost the pixel buds, but I'd say ANC is ~90% as good as the pixel buds (in my usual environments, no idea for stresstests). Passthrough is also great, though maybe only 70% as good as on the pixel buds, if the audio source is close (stove as you cook) it's fine, if it's further away (a truck at the end of the street) it'll not pick that up.

Honestly, it's hard to believe that I'm comparing a 100-150€ product to a 25€ product, they are pretty even. The pixel buds have a marginal edge in ANC, while the MeloBuds have the edge in portability due to the smaller case. I think how it is to carry each day is more important than marginal ANC gains, so I actually feel like I got somewhat of an upgrade. Highly recommended.
To be fair with the pixel buds pro you get wireless charging too but I used that once for the novelty and then never again, so it's a non-factor for me anyways.

You only really need to worry about latency if you're gaming, it's a non-issue for everything else. Videos will automatically adjust to sync the visuals and audio, and music isn't affected by it at all.

No knife "stays sharp" they all get dull. Higher hardness knives are also not lower maintenance than softer knives.
The knife you listed doesn't look like a bad deal if it's got a good balance to hold. I couldn't find that exact set, but similar ones use a 14Cr14MoVNb core with softer cladding and that's pretty neat, but it'll dull, same as a cheap knife, maybe a week slower.
Knives don't get "used up" in the way other stuff does, you can just give it a new edge and it's as good as new, until you legitimately no longer have a blade left after maybe 5 decades of daily use.
So forgive me for the autism melty and do me a favor and get some sharpening implement. I'm on my hands and knees begging here.

You don't need a 6k side. A beginner needs a 1k side and a lower side (320-450).
You can just use the 1k to get there, but it'll be slower.

It's possible that you have super cheap steel, but the other knives you're buying that are cheap are likely equally as soft, so my guess is you're not removing the burr correctly, which is why it coils over and your knives get dull so quick. Look up burr removal online to learn about how to get rid of it, it makes a giant difference in edge retention.

If you truly want to just have a knife that lasts and you never sharpen, get those ceramic knives. They suck ass for longevity, but btfo any steel with no maintenance (Difference is you CAN maintain the steel ones, you almost can't the ceramic ones). They'll stay usable much longer.

Just to clarify, I meant "equally as soft as the ones you complained about dulling quickly" not equally as soft as the one you've bought now. My point was that if you have two knives, one is factory new, the other is dull, and they are made of the same steel (+ heat treatment and all that stuff) and you sharpen the dull one, it should last as long or longer (depending on geometry) as the factory new knife. If it doesn't last as long, it's most likely because you didn't remove the burr properly.
