Why do actually illiterate goyslop consuming foids call me illiterate. I've been a programmer for 30 years. Each day of which I've spent thinking deeply on non-trivial problems while quickly solving trivial and non-trivial problems that I have come across before.

that's not really what literate means

If you go by any dictionary definition the literate label applies to everyone. She has her own nonstandard because of course she does. The grift doesn't pay without it.

at best 3% of the current population is literate which is still an all-time high in human history. might be closer to 1%. this pre-dates chatgpt.

There are difference types of knowledge.
For example, just because you can program, may not mean that you're good at administration, nor does it mean you can do electrical work.
People are only intelligent in the things they usually work in or use. Being good at programming doesn't imply the ability to use critical thought in all other areas.

Which is the exact same fallacy used to teach everyone reading, writing, math.
At least basic math is broadly useful for now. The same can't be said for reading and writing. Might as well be teaching kids how to operate a switchboard.

A fish doesn't know water exists until he's removed from it.
Reading and writing are two of the most useful skills you can have. They make learning any new skill MUCH easier for one, on top of needing to read and write at least to apply for work.

There was a very brief period of time where reading and writing were useful. That ended with the iPhone or at least they got the ball rolling. Hand them an intuitive machine and show them how to use it, it's the modern shovel. You objectively do not need to know how to read and it actually makes learning new skills MORE difficult as you have less time to practice in your early formative years where neuroplasticity is highest.
Teaching every kid to write just generates endless noise. If they can't self-teach they aren't worth reading.

I know you are trolling, but I really want a Luke Smith video where he seriously argues for this.

speedrunning K&R 1st edition on linux in 2024, No AI, laughing at the "answer book" for getting simple (and some tricky) questions wrong (or using primitives that weren't introduced yet). Found some forum posts from Brian Kernighan about what the intended solutions.

Why do you ask?

Aren't games the direct replacement of books. Advocates have come up with "flow state" that books put you in as the main reason to read "long form" books. Games are much more effective at this. For more info see this talk.
Pretty soon we will start seeing games that require the player to enter simultaneous "flow states" that they learned from playing multiple games for thousands of hours.

Here's an example of how pubg teaches you something
>I jumped and parachuted too slow
>didn't get a gun
>got shot and died
>now I have a few minutes to think about my mistake
>New Game
>jump, parachute down faster
>no gun here
>die
>Toss game
I learned to play something better
