In the same time span Microsoft has revamped Windows' DWM three times.

>He almost got the metaphor rigt, but its not an engine its a transmission and the guy who gives you the designs for it doesn't think the ability to shift into reverse is important. So you finally deal with building the whole car only to discover that you can't go backwards and now you are stuck because you parked the car facing forward.

microsoft has teams of employees who are paid to do what they are told by project managers, they get it done because if they don't they'll lose their jobs and livelihood
open sores trannies will fight and bicker on issue trackers over some retarded shit for months on end without actually getting anything done, and god forbid if you've ever said something rude on the internet to some nigger tranny they'll throw you to the sharks no matter how much work you've put in

Because they want it to be shit. There was a time, before SystemD and Wayland, when Canonical was good; They were against Red Hat's and GNOME's decision to use Wayland, after those two ruined X.Org.
More precisely, X.Org was intentionally ruined by Keith Packard, Kristian Høgsberg, Daniel Stone, Adam Jackson, Intel, Collabora, Red Hat, and X.Org Foundation, from 2004 to 2008, because X11 was becoming simpler, thanks to the efforts of XFree86 developers.
After they ruined X.Org, all of them collectively moved to Wayland, and with the help of Pekka Paalanen and Matthias Clasen, from 2012 to 2018, managed to ruin it even faster.
XLibre is different, because its developers have principles, and won't let anyone control XLibre with changes to APIs or toolkits.

I don't know if that explanation is correct, but it sounds like the GNOME way.
why do people keep giving a shit about these traitors, I don't know. but do some research on GNOME and you will clearly see where things are going.

I dunno man, I recently installed Fedora 42 KDE which uses Wayland and everything seems to just work. Even features that have historically been an issue on Linux (like fractional DPI scaling) now work perfectly.
I'm sure it was a monumental effort to replace Xorg, and it did take a long time. I remember playing with Weston around ten years ago now.

But from my perspective it all seems to finally be done and everything now works great. I'm inclined to just use and enjoy it instead of complaining about internal developer drama or whatever.

DWM is not analogous to Wayland, DWM is analogous to compiz. Windows still retains its equivalent of X, DWM is just a compositor.

Keithp was the one who saved and created Xorg and the last to create good extensions for it (PRESENT, which waytards imitated poorly many years later with explicit sync protocols) when everyone else had left.

He also posted patches in his blog for scaling DPI unaware clients for mixed DPI. Keith and Jasper were easily the most competent Xorg devs and also never jumped on the Wayland train. Jasper (also the one who wrote the great Xplain series) left entirely and went to gamedev. He is behind the awesome noclip.website

Wayland is designed for Desktop Environments, it gives maximum power to them meaning if you are lone wolf that just wants to make a middle man application you are fucked.

The big joke about Wayland is that slowly but steady they are working to implement a new x11, they are one step away to realize that wlroots is to minimal and needs to be bigger, just one step away.

Millions of man hours have been wasted on Wayland and it is still inferior to X11 for a bunch of use-cases. If those man hours were spent on X11 think of how much better it would be than it is now. Wayland, like systemd (although you can make a much better case for systemd existing than wayland) is corporate slop designed to waste open source dev time and to entrench corporate power. Only redhat wins if Wayland wins because they (basically) control Wayland, and given Redhat's recent actions, they are the last company you want in control over any part of your tech stack (imo they are as bad as Microsoft because at least M$ didn't openly take open source software and close source it like Redhat did with RHEL).

I never worked on software unless someone paid me

Only people who get involved in development (mainly spergs) could be so easily fooled into working for free

Unironically this, I have a 7 year old laptop with a Nvidia card and a fairly new desktop with amd.
I've not had any real grief with either x or Wayland over the years.
And I'm doing weird shit like GPU passthrough into vm's and running GUI apps inside LXD containers.
Is every whining about this stuff running arch or something?
