Do you even know what remote attestation is?
Let's say you want to connect somehere you have to cryptographically prove you booted an untampeted OS under secure boot, that's what TPM is for.
Let's say you booted the OS under secure boot, now it can run processes inside VBS enclaves and there's nothing you can do touch these processes, no code injection, no hooks, no modification, nothing.
This is the use case here.

that's the ultimate goal since windows 8 when they became the secure boot jailer and strong armed the entire world to use their own PK/KEK/DB/DBX.
btw the PK and certs in DB/DBX are expiring in 2026 so many computers won't boot in secure boot more unless updated by the user or motherboard manufacturer.

>Virtualization-based security, or VBS, uses hardware virtualization and the Windows hypervisor to create an isolated virtual environment that becomes the root of trust of the OS that assumes the kernel can be compromised.

>One such example security solution is memory integrity, which protects and hardens Windows by running kernel mode code integrity within the isolated virtual environment of VBS. Kernel mode code integrity is the Windows process that checks all kernel mode drivers and binaries before they're started, and prevents unsigned or untrusted drivers or system files from being loaded into system memory. Memory integrity also restricts kernel memory allocations that could be used to compromise the system, ensuring that kernel memory pages are only made executable after passing code integrity checks inside the secure runtime environment, and executable pages themselves are never writable. That way, even if there are vulnerabilities like a buffer overflow that allow malware to attempt to modify memory, executable code pages cannot be modified, and modified memory cannot be made executable.

A vulnerable driver gives you nothing you can do to modify process behavior in such case.

my question was:
>even if "secure boot" prevents users from compromising their kernel in boot process, how is it beneficial if users can still compromise the kernel at runtime?
from my understanding (see >>106143682) secure boot is more like a prerequisite and it would be meaningless without virtualization and other measures.

cheaters are fucking cancer online and taking measures against them is good. I don't buy into the privacy concerns there are with SecureBoot since you can use your own keys, the rest can be either categorized as skill issue or schizo like you said yourself. There are some legit edge cases that are negatively impacted by the requirement like steam deck players, but I accept those as growing pains going from windows monopoly towards linux gaming. In 5 years any linux gaming distro will come with Secureboot enabled by default, with MOK or shim keys, and maybe BF6 can run on there. and the hardware will follow suit.
Gaming is a big business and they're implementing measures to keep it enjoyable. That's just how it is nowadays.

while this will probably protect you from retarded kids running cheats shitting up the matchmaking, it won't protect you from
>DMA cheaters (maybe)
>getting raped by console players that essentially use legal cheats with aim assist (or pc players with gamepad since like in bf2042 they will also get lower recoil, rotational aim assist (the strongerst aim assist feature by far, it's the thing that let's you target other people by simply moving the "left" aiming stick, it does all the tracking for you), aim slow-down)

anyway I think it's retarded that you even have to do this in the first place, like people just want to play a video game not mess with their settings you see where I'm getting at
most people are not really concerned about privacy (since it doesn't exist anyway), the issue is the fact that you have to do this in the first place, if they implemented in a more user friendly way where one setting in windows was enough most people wouldn't even talk about it and the small schizo minority won't be that big of a deal
