I want to cover Squarepusher Theme with a live bass, so I have been trying to recreate the track (minus the bass). I have never produced music before so this is difficult. Here's a snippet after a couple days learning Renoise. It's shit right now since I have no idea how to mix or master anything, but it will get better I think

mixing is about making the individual tracks (vocals, drums etc) and making them fit together. mastering is subtle finishing touches on the stereo mix as well as making it louder. at the professional level both of these stages involves coloring the sound with analog gear and/or plugins that emulate the analog sound but anons and most amateurs are painfully oblivious to how this works, and this still relies on the producer doing a good job with the analog sound, a common split is 50/50 between the artist and producer whereas most anons still believe that it's mostly the songwriting and artist's performance that makes the song and not so much the production because they have shitty audio and dunning-kruger delusions so they will think that a successful song had shitty production so in their mind this excuses them to have shitty production themselves as long as the songwriting is good.

They pulled me out of all sports and opted not to get me any arts or music training because of how bad I was at it all. So by age 8 or so, I was confirmed talentless. Idk why I still try to make music, I just like electronic music

When I export a song it sounds quite different from what I play in garageband, is this something you have to account for when mastering?

QRD on lexicon reverb plugins? hardware reverbs seem somewhat frivolous compared to synths and dynamics processors although the lexicon 480L still sells for thousands of dollars. there's valhalla vintageverb and other plugins too but lexicon supposedly has the legit algorithms that have been used on many classic hit records. gearspace has an active thread about it

lexicon pcm reverbs are the pcm96 algorithms, not the ones in the 480l.
if you want those the options are relab and uad. i think arturia put out something that looks like a 480l recently, but i never messed with it.
