Mobile users can't block your ads, are more likely to pay for in-app purchases due to the convenience of Apple pay, don't chargeback because they'd get banned by the app store, and are more likely to spend time on your app due to notifications. Most traffic on the web comes from mobile users anyways as well. So provided that the content of your app isn't against the ToS of the app store- why would you even think about making a website in 2025?

Users would be hesitant to install apps because that leaves less room for their selfies

Because of user freedom and it being being better for reading a lot of text, but it's not like anyone cares about either of those things.

network effects - you have to either be obscenely wealthy or figure out a way to build a time machine that takes you back to 2003 to create a successful platform these days, since the the twitter purchase proves that nobody these days is willing to give up their followings on more dominant platforms

In China this is already the case. Chinese websites like bilibli are totally unusable, they annoy you so much until you have installed the app. But also in the western internet, corpos are making website versions bad and broken on purpose, to nudge you to install the app. It is no coincidence, that the website version of reddit is so buggy and broken. This way the web version of my bank "convinced" me to install their stupid app.

Going to a website you haven't heard of is low friction compared to installing an app.
And even after installing they will most likely forget about it, since they will open their doom scrolling app or gatcha of choice on autopilot.

Having to install an app doesn't stop me from using your site but having to login without even being able to browse signed out absolutely will.

Also I'm a mobile user that blocks your ads and doesn't pay for anything.

You don't represent the grand majority of internet users, so your opinion doesn't matter.
