it's all stared during PS one era. thanks to CD technology game developers could put hours of cutscenes on a single CD. so we got our first sloppy movie games (metal gear, final fantasy, resident evil etc.)

Mainstream adoption of per-pixel lighting signaled the death of the golden era of video games. First it was NVIDIA demos, then Tenebrae, and from Doom3 onwards everything went to shit.
