RTX 50 Super: might launch in Q4 '25, 24GB VRAM for 5070 Ti & 5080 Super, 18GB for 5070 Super

>Omissions
RTX 5070 Ti: buy if you need CUDA, if you value DLSS/Reflex that highly, and if the 5060 Ti 16GB or 5070 isn't performant enough.
RTX 5070: buy if it's reasonably priced & if you plan to work around potential VRAM bottlenecks.
RX 9070 non-XT: worth considering if it's significantly cheaper than the 9070 XT.
Intel 13 & 14th gen i7/9 -K CPUs: BIOS update required due to reliability issues. Recommended to set a CPU VR voltage limit (1.4 or 1.45V).

>Product Notice
AOC Q27G40XMN: nice budget 1440p miniLED monitor but inconsistent QC.
Bad one causes DisplayHDR setting to look overbrightened and desaturated when applying the best local dimming option.

Gigabyte RTX 50 & RX 9000 video cards: thermal gel has QC issues, Gigabyte claims only early production batches were affected.
https://www.igorslab.de/en/update-on-thermal-putty-on-gigabyte-graphics-cards-after-further-storage-oil-separation-to-an-alarming-extent-and-silence-as-a-strategy/

Avoid updating Gigabyte motherboard's RGB controller firmware, as it can disable board features such as Q-Flash Plus.

LGA1700 is DOA. For the cost of an i5 12400 + decent mobo you're tragically close to the cost of r5 7600 + b650 mobo, the cost of RAM being the biggest differentiator. 100% not worth it.

The new WOLEDs each have suboptimal display configs.
>ASUS WOLEDs with TrueBlack Glossy finish are still stuck with a Gen 3 panel, imagine paying the ASUS premium for this.
>Gigabyte WOLED with new Gen 4 panel stuck with matte coating, enjoy hazy/grainy/oily images.

Or shall i wait for a ryzen 5 9600x3d? I have a laptop which has 16gb ram and a ryzen with igpu. my 16gb ram gets almost fully used. so should i buy a 32gb ram? A stock 5060 Ti 16GB doesn't even draw 200W, dual fans are fine with this power load.
A 980 Ti has a 250W TDP, and this GPU either has a blower fan or a dual-fan cooling (two-slot form factor).

>I see these cheaper versions hitting 70-75 degrees under full load
That's fine for the GPU, but buy one with a better cooler if you're uncomfortable with it.
ASUS Dual has a quiet BIOS mode that will reduce the fan noise for higher operating temperatures.

Bought a $40 case and built a "prebuilt" from old PC that I'm going to sell. The case is chink "Zeiron Montreal Mesh 4xRGB" and really surprised me. It's really small but fits proper ATX mobo and 310mm GPU. The side panel glass feels like actual glass in weight and texture. The downsides is ugly front panel, no dust filter on intake fans (there is one for PSU), atrocious 2-wire molex RGB fans. Other than that the insides are rather thought out for that price. Slight issue is upper motherboard power connector but if you throw it up before screwing mobo, it's fine. Had a lot of fun building this. Would probably buy myself another one of those cases and strip it entirely for "open stand". Next will throw new rig together temporarily, just to see if cloned windows works properly after hardware change.

be Quiet Pure Wings 3 120mm is a newer and better fan than the Noctua P12.
You should only pay the Noctua premium for their best fans, but Fractal's Momentum fans are a serious alternative.

Arctic P12 if you just want a budget case fan.

Looking for context form others to know if I'm on the right track with cooling. This new build has a 9800X3D and a 9070 XT. I decided to stress-test it with Cyberpunk, a game which is practically a tech demo for Nvidia at this point. As expected, turning on raytracing medium dropped the framerate down to between 50-60, though since I'm using a shitty old 60hz monitor that doesn't actually matter.

Thermals were very consistent, I'm just trying to figure out if they're right from others' experience, especially the memory temp. CPU temp barely budged - it's 48-51 idle (depends on ambient temp) and never got above 57. GPU core temp was 63-65 the entire time. GPU memory temp was 80-82, that's the only one I'm really keeping an eye on. It obviously wasn't really gathering and retaining heat as it didn't really climb over time, but it's the hottest thing on the board so far.

It's quite literally the best overall AIO on the market. Sure there's other coolers that can out "oomph" the LF3, but those are seriously louder than the LF3. And sure there's other coolers that can reach the LF3's noise floor, but those lack the cooling performance of the LF3.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfffNRTOZCc

All at an unmatched price, it just blows everything else out of the water. It is unreachable by any other cooling solution, provided you have a slot for at least an 240mm rad.

Oh well maybe that was why I did it. I don't remember at all honestly. The Antec C8 radiator mounting is really weird in my opinion. The weight of the radiator sits against the tubes (in the optimal configuration with the tubes traveling down from the pump) and the fans are separated from the radiator by a thin mounting layer in the case. Other cases i looked up don't seem to do that.

IMO right now it's 50/50
1. Going for it, will be the first gen since RNDA 2 back in 2020 to have serious console money funding it to give AMD a reason to financially care about it other than as a dumping ground for extra TSMC wafer orders after minting all the EPYC server dies they need.
2. Going against it, it's going to be their first unified uArch in a while and so we won't know how much of the die is going to be dedicated to Compute/AI that will mean fuck all in gaming like how Ada was great for ML but deeply underwhelming in games compared to Ampere

Just replaced most of my pc and the CPU seems to be running pretty hot. It's only a 9600x so I expected it to be a bit cooler.
Idle is 50-55 eventually, prime95 gets up to ~72 after a few hours and I've had it reach 83 at the highest when gaming for a while (presumably because the GPU also gets hotter, so there's more heat in the case in general?). I think that stressed temperature is fine (tell me if it isn't!), but should I care about the idle temperature? I just went with some new screws for my AM4 Cooler Master Hyper 212 to make it fit on the AM5 board, so I definitely skimped on it. I only have room for 1 front fan due to the GPU taking up most of the depth of the case, would adding top fans help much? Currently the only case ones I'm using are one front and one back.

Only having VCache on one CCD was never the issue, the issue has always been the high latency whenever an application's thread count exceeds the core count of 1 CCD and is forced to cross the quick sand pit that is AMD's Infinity Fabric just to get to another CCD instead. A Dual-VCache chip won't change that, only having more cores per CCD will and that will only come with Zen 6.

it's not a sensor issue
the package temperature on modern AMD (and intel) CPUs report the highest temperature of all cores in the system
so when you're playing a game and 1-2 cores are sitting at 83C it's gonna look like it's getting hotter than all 6 cores do in prime95
look at per-core temperatures in HWINFO, if all of them are hitting 83C in-game you might have a problem

I already have a NVMe that I don't plan to upgrade but it would be pretty stupid to buy a motherboard that won't support 5.0 graphics in 2025, right? What's the easiest way to tell that they mean PCIe 5.0 support for your graphics card? Even official sites of motherboard manufacturers are confusing

You fell for the Nvidia jew driver upgrade scam, didnt you?

I was like you once. Naive and trusting.

I then realized that all driver updates are scams once you get a working driver installed. Game companies use this to blame their jeet code on nvidia and vice versa so nobody is accountable.

>Previously stable game starts crashing
>Ignore the "update your driver" lie
>Play another game for 2-3 weeks so the jeet developers patch their shit game code
>Go back in 3 weeks and voila! the game works with the old drivers I never upgraded.

No, it will get hot when compiling shaders. Capped at 95 means it is throttling. Hovering around 90 is expected and means it is not being held back. Four things:
1. hot ambient temp will hamper cooling. Also ensure the case fans are feeding enough to the AIO,
2. Poor application of paste or loose mounting,
3. AIO pump and fan speeds not tweaked for efficiency; slower pumps can work better than 100%,
4. Please don't have forgotten to take off the plastic cover from the cold plate.

Vocal minority is vocal minority.

It also stems from an evolutionary strategy; contrarianism is a natural part of it. A herd may be safe in known grazing areas and migratory paths, but having offshoots (contrarians) that explore other options (by doing the exact opposite thing every time) can increase the chances that the herd as a whole will never die out due to unforeseen circumstances since a known alternative path has been trailblazed ahead of time. In order for this to work, the Contrarian offshoots must be wholly convinced of the superiority of their methods, especially if they are intelligent creatures, otherwise it would be rational to just return to the herd. Hence they will be vehemently vocal about it, but even more so if there are signs that their alternate paths are actually not as good as the baseline and might be causing the Contrarian faction to be dying out instead. They will do everything to keep their faction populated for obvious reasons.

I saw one other guy say in the archive but I'll say it too for anyone else like me checking, my aliexpress 5700x3d died.
Something catastrophically shorted in the chip, instantly trips on boot. No other visible damage and old cpu boots up just fine when I swap it back in. Couple other reports from places like reddit. I'm guessing these were QC failures. Ran for about a year paid 136 bucks.

Also there's just the audience bias. Blackbird Tech is a smaller channel that pointed this out to me (was it in the talk collab with Jufes?); AMD Steve 1 and AMD Steve 2's public reactions may not necessarily reflect their true feelings. Their content is AMD biased because they have cultivated a viewer base that is AMD biased, chicken and egg problem notwithstanding. If they release a video praising AMD, they get clicks and ratings and ad revenue. If they release a video bashing AMD or otherwise advertising Nvidia/Intel in a strong way, they lose clicks and subs. This means big channels like these are simply financially incentivized to keep catering to their audience.

FSR 4 is already very good (better than DLSS 3 and close to DLSS 4 in image quality) and there is no reason RDNA 4 won't get better future versions of FSR 4 in the future since it has proper AI Tensor cores unlike previous RDNA generations.

Radeon finally came out with a generation that is competitive while Nvidia shot themselves in the foot over and over with numerous controversies causing bad PR so of course there are more negative videos about Nvidia than AMD currently. I'll try tweaking them incrementally instead of going straight for the "optimum" settings, some of the recommended jumps seem quite large like the tREFI (stock is 11677, they're saying to go 50000), or things like almost halving my tWR and various other timings.

In any case, the kit is a G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB, but I don't know how to tell exactly what kind of chips it has.

you can tell what you have by checking the code like on picrel
A = newer 16gbit A-die
M = older 16gbit M-die

So kind of following anon-advice I recently upgraded to picrel from msi z87-g43/i5 3.4GJZ 4670k

So, I guess, now I want to upgrade my graphics card to something low-mid range, may be used. Tought about Arc A770 or something like this. Probably would prefer slight more expensive NVIDIA for stability and compatability (i play old games mostly, 1440p though).

Please advice.

Also consider the 4060ti since it supports 32bit physx used in older games that rtx5000 dropped support for

It's an M die then, thanks anon. I might just stick with the EXPO default settings, they're perfectly stable and my PC is pretty well fast enough anyway.

shouldnt I aim for something for more vram? I am playing old games like SC2 or even seven kingdoms from time to time but somethimes i go with bf 1 and probably will try to try BF6 - so isnt more VRAM important? Like 12 gb?

I'm not aware of any older games bottlenecking on 8gb vram tb h
But if you think 8gb isn't enough, the step up to 4060ti 16gb and 5060ti 16gb would be the next best choice unless you look for used 3080ti and 4070 12gb GPUs
