Searches are absolutely abysmal now, the results are so fucking limited, many of the results aren't related, the channels you are shown seems like they were selected from a whitelist or something, and the default state if you don't sort specifically by videos will show you like 5 remotely related searches then this "for you" bs now.

Is there a way to improve this on my end or is it just ruined now?

It really is terrible. It seems it happenned in the last 2 weeks, like almost just before this UK ID shit. Even the most innocuous of searches are limited, searches that once netted me results gave me so little and nothing related to the point that I questioned if what I was looking for was literally erased from the cosmos like some schizo mandella effect shit, but no, the algo is just horse shit now.

When I search, regardless of topic, I get 2 results and then a for you feed. Also, searching the video ID no longer gives the video back.

There's a browser extension called "Unhook." Currently, YouTube opens directly to my subscriptions page, trending and recommended are removed. Shorts can be removed, but almost nobody I follow posts them, so I leave it on. Sidebar is removed, except for chat replays.

Sure, you can just turn it off, but unlike with porn blocking extension, I have absolutely no urge to do so, because I know I'll just end up doomscrolling cancer shit for hours. I rarely search anything unless I know exactly what I'm looking for.

Just disable view history (deletes the for you page) and default to the subscribed tab. All I do now is check that. It lists new vids in chronological order. Don't use it for anything else.

I barely use search but 99% of the time I visit youtube these days I tell the website I'm not interested in a bunch of videos they recommend me (because it's time wasting drivel), and then just leave because there's nothing worth watching.
