all programming has gotten easier over time.
it was easier to code in the 2010s than it was in the 2000s, and i'm sure people have similar fears every time something new comes down the pipe, but that is why you 'upskill' or migrate.

I agree completely.
It's a skill where input matters.
Garbage in, garbage out.
The people who are both extremely good at programming, and also extremely good at understanding how to get the most out of the toolsets will be the ones having their productivity multiplied.
People who are bad will also have their productivity multiplied...negatively of course.
AI is anything but an 'equalizer'. It's the exact opposite.
Anonymous No.106159212
You can compare coding AIs to image generation - if image generation makes a small mistake like an extra finger or an out-of-place object, then you have to stop everything and fix it or regen.
With code it's a bigger deal to introduce bugs, even if the mistakes only occur 1% of the time it still needs a babysitter. Even if the mistakes only occur 0.1% of the time, it will always require babysitting. Therefore it's a tool.

Self-driving cars can't be solved because the mistakes that occur 0.001% of the time or whatever astronomically tiny percentage are still too risky to deploy.

This 100x. Everything that handles the small hyper technical details are already written into large frameworks. Most jobs are just stitching all this crap together in a way that makes sense and can be easily expanded on for requirements.
Everything that can be made generic has been made generic, so you just use the simple interface they give you and bam it works.
The issue is that you need to know a whole lot of stuff and what to use, what not to use, when to use certain things, etc.

Yeah, if you're a senior or lead in a serious company, you'll make much more than any blue collar worker and most white collars, but for us regular 2nd world codemonkeys who will never advance past mid level, it's comparable to dock workers and truck drivers. Welcome to the realisation that 4chan is just reddit in another form.
Where "leftists" cry about AI due to job losses and artistic reasons, anons cry about AI due to potential job losses and because anyone into programming is a cunt.
Programmers have always been the worst part of /g/ and the closest to reddit in attitude. It's no surprise they'd eventually align with the same talking points.

They're easily baited too, because they need to operate on the logic of status quo just like a neoliberal; all while the walls decay around them.

>Introductions to AI within the workplace only means that expectations will get higher
I saw someone the other week on the topic of productivity & the economy having a bit of a melty over growth, taxation and burdens.
However his argument required ignoring that wage growth had stagnated again after the financial crisis across the world in line with constant inflation, that the velocity of money had changed and frozen twice in two large events and then at the end of the post he was saying "productivity is down". Like he just couldn't accept that the industrial revolution had happened, we got out of world war II & beyond, through a few financial crisis' in which productivity always returned above and beyond the slump and went ever upwards while everything else would flatten out.

I wonder what kind of brain injury he had, where he got his news from or why he thought people investing in the stock market and working 6 days a week was going to change it but it was nice to know the crazies were in from the streets for a bit.
These are the same people who say things like "unemployment is too high" at the same time unemployment is usually at its lowest point for 20-30 years etc. Delusional and trapped in a past that never existed to begin with.

So?
You are still in the top 2 deciles of salaried workers iyc, and have a comfy wfh job where you get to solve puzzles all day or just coast without much effort.

Tradies literally destroy their bodies and work 10 hour days and commute for 2.

You roll out of bed, log on, and solve a ticket or 2 for the whole day and probably make close to the top of the wage chart of salaried workers.

Contrarians definitely get hit by being too sceptical.
You can read hype building doom articles about things like an Anthropic model trying to blackmail a staff member and disregard it because it's a safety test and the scenario that was set for it.
You can see that's there to hype up Anthropic as being close to agi, two more weeks bro!
but you can also see the strategies outside knowing that news outlets will obscure information by bad journalism and realise that the context of how the model got around to the idea of blackmail is what matters, much like trying to backup their own weights etc. It all comes down to the context of recognising an unsafe behaviour.

In the context of what normalfags interact with on the websites with locked down user agents etc. Yeah, safety concerns drift more towards cunny for them. In an area where the end goal is AGI or to be deployed in a government system with tool use etc, yeah, it's vastly different from deb in HR at normalfag & partners law firm.
Yet to be a contrarian and deny hype usually comes with you having to dismiss everything to be cynical, so yeah you do get left in the dust.

women's jobs are basically daycare with no responsibilities for ai to take over, AI can't replicate pointlessly rejecting candidates at HR because their star sign is wrong

How is this even possible? How can an LLM understand inputs that were not part of their training set?

>software dev industry is 98.9% these braindead chores
Thank fuck it's dying.

Of course the reality is that the worthless chores never mattered. It was always just middle managers jousting at eachother with "muh codebase" and "muh team." So now AI will just 10x that and we'll be back where we started but with a massive unknowable random number generator between us and what we're working on.

But desu that's not so different from the way corporate software works today.

no it's not, AI are free-ish and powerful because it's only the beginning, once enshittification starts it will be a disaster of unprecedented scale.
the fuck do you think will happen to companies that fired all there software engineers to hire prompt supervisors (ie brain damaged human you would normally hire to flip burgers or move boxes around, disposable workforce) when the software is turning to shit on purpose for next quarter gains?
it's not a what if scenario, it's a when scenario, it will happen with 100% certainty.
at some point it will be more cost-efficient again to have humans that to rely on big daddy AI taht can kill your business overnight just by revoking your tokens.

ok let's say AI can do 90% of the job. how many guys do you need to read and understand the entire codebase for the remaining 10%?

answer: the same number of guys.

just like how computers can fly planes 95% of the time, but you still need the same number of pilots
