Rustacean rejected by AI company that used xir MIT library
https://grell.dev/blog/ai_rejection
Even before LLMs, anyone using MIT, BSD, or other cuck licenses was OK with getting exploited.
After? You're practically begging for it.
And notice how heavily the Rust community pushes MIT, especially for its
>rewrite ___ in Rust!
campaigns, to the point where it's the default license, supposedly because the Rust toolchain is so shitty thart it makes dynamic linking (and by extension, the LGPL) a non-starter.

MPLv2 is a popular(ish) license indeed. But really, all popular licenses are represented in "crates.io" including all GPL ones and even the EUPL.
but MIT and/or Apache do dominate when it comes to the (raw) numbers of published crates. But that's more of a generational trend that extends beyond rust. /g/eets are too retarded to understand such things of course.
Doing a shallow raw analysis without taking into account crate impact (popularity/use in the ecosystem), here are the number of crates which their current default_version has "MPL" or "GPL" or "EUPL" in its license (filtered for >10 entries):
MPL-2.0: 4108
GPL-3.0: 4061
GPL-3.0-or-later: 2737
GPL-3.0-only: 1714
AGPL-3.0-or-later: 1223
AGPL-3.0: 1005
AGPL-3.0-only: 777
LGPL-3.0: 452
LGPL-3.0-or-later: 422
GPL-2.0: 394
EUPL-1.2: 340
GPL-2.0-or-later: 312

GPL-3.0+: 244
LGPL-3.0-only: 219
LGPL-2.1: 201
GPL-3.0-or-later WITH Classpath-exception-2.0: 178
LGPL-2.1-or-later: 101
LGPL-3.0+: 80
GPL-2.0+: 74
AGPL-3.0+: 62
GPL-3.0-or-later OR Apache-2.0 OR MulanPSL-2.0: 53
LGPL-2.1-only: 51
LGPL-2.0-or-later: 45
MPL-2.0+: 42
GPL-2.0-or-later WITH Bison-exception-2.2: 28
Apache-2.0 OR GPL-3.0: 28
MPL-2.0 OR MIT OR Apache-2.0: 23
LGPL-2.1+: 23
Apache-2.0 OR LGPL-2.1-or-later: 22
GPL-3.0-only OR LicenseRef-Slint-Royalty-free-2.0 OR LicenseRef-Slint-Software-3.0: 20
Apache-2.0 OR MPL-2.0: 19
MPL-2.0 OR GPL-3.0-only: 18
MPL-2.0-no-copyleft-exception: 15
GPL-3.0-or-later: 15
MIT OR GPL-3.0-or-later: 14
MIT OR Apache-2.0 OR GPL-2.0 OR GPL-3.0: 14
MIT OR GPL-3.0: 13
(GPL-3.0-only OR LicenseRef-SixtyFPS-commercial): 13
MPL-2.0 OR LGPL-2.1-or-later: 11

LGPL-2.0-only: 11
LGPL-2.0: 11
AGPL-3.0-or-later OR EUPL-1.2: 11

but overall, you have 153172 with MIT or Apache as a part of the license field, vs. 19989 with GPL or MPL or EUPL in its name.
(based on crates.io dump from 2025.07.31, raw means i didn't even touch white space errors from crate authors)

why do people think that licences will do shit? In most jurisdictions breaking the terms of a license is not a criminal offence on its own, so you would have to file a civil lawsuit against the deal breaker, and in this case corporations who can afford the best possible lawyers that will appeal as long as they want will always win. Cases when open sauce devs won exist solely because some companies decided that complying will be better solution than taking things to the court, but if they really wanted to keep using copylefted code, you wouldnt do much. Github Copilot is the best example of that.

Anthropic is a company ran and largely staffed by (AI) doomers, meaning a very specific breed of cultists. Their particular subsect is not as bad as those near Yud, but it's not that far either.
They are incredibly strongly against open source as well, except in very shallow ways (such as what OP did).
I don't see why that poster thinks he would get a job there without passing their purity tests lmao.
They'll probably lose the race, even though Claude is alright as a LLM.

Kind of, LW hates them for advancing AI, but also likes them a bit for releasing ``safety'' papers.
Anthropic basically was the more "safety" concerned people that left OpenAI a long time ago. By modern doomer (LW) standards, Anthropic is accelerationist, but by literally everyone lab' out there, Anthropic is most concerned about by things LW cares about. So you could say Anthropic is made by people that would want to build AGI first while still believing in LW lore because they think they would"do it right", LW may hate them because muh advancing the field. Meanwhile Anthropic never releases papers to help the field improve, because they do believe LW philosophy, they just leech from the public and do their own internal research.
As far as their doomer related work goes, the "safety" stuff is often slop and roleplaying, but the interpretability work is probably one of the better ones in the field .

Of course they're still cultists and you shouldn't want to work there, they do aspire to run their company in a way that compartmentalizes internal information heavily due to being such doomers that even their own employees mustn't know the full story of how their GPT was baked - similar to how a spy agency would be run, or well, a cult!. It's crazy and I don't see why anyone that isn't part of that "rationalist" cult would want to work there, maybe unless they get a very very large sallary.

Claude is a cloud service, so MIT or GPL doesn't make any difference.
They only use the software on their own computers and don't redistribute them.

It's absolutely retarded to push GPL instead of AGPL in current day.
It only gives proprietary cloud services an advantage over proprietary local running software.

The scores for any task go way down. OpenAI themselves released a paper about it. It doesn't matter if it can say nigger or not, it matters if the fucking reasoning capabilities go down the toilet. A safety-aligned model will ALWAYS perform worse than before the alignment.

Framing this as "exploitation" is idiotic and you are an idiot. All that would have happened if he put it under AGPLv3 or whatever other unworkable license you are pushing is that nobody would be using the code.

It's better, simple as that. It would be even better if it didn't have all the safety alignment. The fact is they're going to be competing at a disadvantage. If they can still create a better model then that's an impressive feat.
