I used Opus 4.1 for a chat last night
1. It cost about $10
2. It started doing the format-repeat thing after a while where every message has a bunch of the same features like a metaphor about how [adjective] {{char}} is or a very [trait] line of dialogue at a specific point of a specific paragraph. I assume this is fixable via sysprompt, but it's still a shame Opus does this where other good models don't

The context and smaller models in general are the main problem with local. The advantages it has are not having to rely on external servers, being able to customize models, and of course being free except for electricity costs.

Online commercial models tend to give better results but you also have to work around censorship. Uncensored local models are much better about that without needing workarounds, but like you said the context window and response time and such are all going to depend on your machine's specs.
