Use case for permissions on a single user system?
you can print with net cat to some printer port
>>106171543Uninvited guests on the system.
>>106171056yes but he's a retard too obsessed with being complicated
Should've installed Fedora Plasma instead. I installed that on my laptop a couple weeks ago and the other day, I finally decided to print something over wifi without any prior setup. I just hit print and picked my printer on the little menu and it fucking worked. Same thing when I had to scan my vaccine records to upload for class clinicals (medical workers have to have a bunch of vaccines and proven immunities) and when I opened the default scan program and ran it, it just fucking worked with all the defaults set to what I normally had to manually choose every time on the official Windows program for Brother scanners.
Kinda annoying how official video codecs were broken and I had to find an alternative repository to get some other codec packs, but hey, I can watch my weeb shit like nothing had even happened now. Now if I could find a way to get Dolphin to totally disable the annoying folder tabs automatically opening and adding up as I navigate my files, that would be fantastic. My Google searches didn't find a solution for that.
>>106171039 (OP)if i wanted to read reddit i would just go there.
>>106171543That is why I only login as root, too lazy to type sudo every time I need to do something.
>>106171552You can print on Mac by hitting the print button.
>>106171646Just remembered this as I was using it. You know what else just fucking works on Fedora that didn't on Ubuntu because of some error or being outdated or whatever because I had every setting correct that worked for everyone else on previous versions? Sending files between my phone and laptop via Bluetooth.

Which printer brand plays the nicest with Linux autism?
>>106171039 (OP)this is weird ive had far less printer issues on linux than with windows he probably just didnt have a driver installed lol

>>106171039 (OP)install a Windows VM and attach printer USB to said VM. just as a backup if you're too brainlet to figure out printing in linux.
>>106171039 (OP)Arch is a toy distro for those who want to feel like a h4x0r. Of course it's not a good distro for a dad with kids.
>>106171978Wow, you can print from Windows like that as well.
>>106172860if it were a toy distro it would work for a dad with kids, that's the point of a toy distro.
arch requires you have some knowledge to properly manage it in time. if you do, you'll have a good experience. if you don't, stick to ubuntu until you gather more experience.
>>106172033Same. I have printed and scanned from my Gentoo system completely assembled and built from source before.
Most likely they have something wrong with CUPS in which case you can scream at the Apple employees that "maintain" that shit.
>>106171543None, multi-user systems are a relic of the past, there is no reason any OS needs to support more than one user. What, sandboxing? That's what containers are for, both Docker and Flatpak use them, this kind of thing just needs to be integrated into the OS itself.
>>106172922shh
for some reason linux users are obsessed over shit, like they really want their manuals from the '80's to be always true. it's really painful, they still think everything being a file is a great API design for software.
>printing documents in two clicks might work for your use case, but i personally value having full control over my printing experience
oh brother
>>106171039 (OP)macOS doesn't have this problem.
What the fuck those people do with their computers? Im a complete fucking noob using arch and everything is plug and play. Hell, my windows takes like forty seconds to connect to a bluetooth speaker while the arch laptop does so immediately. Works with printers, gamepads, everything. I've never had an issue that took more than 2 minutes to resolve.
>>106171039 (OP)>I finally got some time yesterday, and realized my user lost membership in the cups and lp groupsI'm not in these groups but I can print thoughbeit
>>106172979>they still think everything being a file is a great API design for softwareOK, let's see your OS. Oh you don't have one?
