Do you think it's possible to have visuals on the level of Hollywood CGI rendered in real time like for video games? And if so, when do you think we will reach that point?

don't care
if any games do this they will be the size of hollywood production companies and their output equivalent to hollywood or worse
AKA garbage
Not that AAA is not already garbage

I think the main issue will be making such high-poly models rather than rendering them. I'm also really satisfied with graphics in modern games.

future video games will be real-time AI generated.

it might be possible, but is it possible at scale for the entire world population?
Anonymous No.106183988
No because every game studio use unreal which doesn't come with realistic rendering

Filmmakers and architectural firms are using game engines for graphics now.

The real question is when we will reach the point of AAA games having good gameplay and writing

They do but they are not rendering in real time when those people use them.

In the 90s and 2000s. We past that one actually

To AI generate game logic and rules on the fly while keeping them consistent is complicated enough that it if we reach this level of optimisation in video models, the next Windows version would just be fully AI generated on the fly like this.

The future where the whole computer is just AI generated video in real time.

Do I think it's possible? Yes
How far away is it? Very very very very far away

Only James Cameron and Avatar is pushing VFX forwards. Nothing else. Nobody else.

Garbage everywhere else.

we're literally already there
movie CGI sucks ass compared to video games
the only difference is animation, that is the hard part

it has to do with the difference between rasterizer vs raytracing. In raster you only sample from the center of the pixel while in raytracing you sample randomly kinda stochastically inside the pixel to throw the ray. Also when reading research you can see two different of one in film that is memory intensive for fidelity, filling it with 256mb density fonction for a small glint. In real time this fidelity doesn't exist, everything is an edgecase. Kinda make it fun. With all the fancy ass GTX 4090 we throw one ray per 4 pixel and we use it to approximate shadow and denoise that result and add a blur on it. I wanna give it 15 years. The distance between both are getting blurry. Altough, rich tech companies are now obsessed with putting money on anything AI instead, so it genuinely slowed down a bit.
