/csg/ - Chink Shit General
Everything is already from China, but here we discuss the cheap chink shit you see on various sites.

Fuck I missed the ant autism.
That ant farm is horrible. It's way too large for a new colony. It's made for a colony with hundreds of workers. A new colony will just freak out in there and kill itself.
Get something smaller. How much smaller depends on the amount of workers you ordered.
The antskeeper store (spelled exactly like that) sells some pretty decent nests. But there's a lot of others too.

it's some chink mouse i got my dad a few years back, it's flat and takes one AAA battery. If you google "mouse black wireless" it's one of the first pics you get, except that one takes a battery. Also, i had got my sister pic related (though that one is blue instead of black, so maybe it's not the same exact model as the one in the pic) that also takes a battery
plus the one i'm using myself, a logitech m650 L which isn't a flat one and takes a AA battery but that's because it's specifically made to not be flat, the battery really doesn't take up any space that would stop it from being flat. Like it could be half the height and the battery would still fit fine. Also, i think my dad also got a "mid size" (not flat but not too tall either) from i think trust, it's still pretty small and takes a normal battery too

>That ant farm is horrible. It's way too large for a new colony
If you look at picrel, it comes with dividers (red pvc/plastic sheets to slot into the pathways). It hasn't arrived yet, so I can't say how many exactly there are, but this is my guess from the pictures, each colored area is another segment that you can unlock.
So really the plan was to keep the ants int he test tube until 10-20 workers, then move them to the light green area. Only issue there is that the small feeding area is connected to the dark blue area, and those 3 areas (black, dark blue, light green) are almost certainly too large, so I'll have to just put them into light green and then feed via the arena (there's a hole at the back to get into the arena straight from the light green area.
Do you still think it'll be an issue?
>The antskeeper store (spelled exactly like that) sells some pretty decent nests
I looked at them, seems like simple 3d printed designs, do they have some sort of insert on the bottom for better moisture control? Couldn't figure out what that was.

If you think it's necessary, picrel are the options by the store you mentiond I could get. All cost the same (the 4$ one just has 3$ of shipping attached).
Would you recommend I do buy a smaller one just to get them started and if so which one? Or should the segmentation be fine?
I also got some red plastic film (photo filter) to attach to the tower so they get proper dark, the clear acrylic would stress them out too much is my guess.

Even with the dividers, the area is probably still a bit big. You could try it though. PVC also isnt a great surface for their nests. Something more natural and absorbent like plaster is better. They need moisture to develop the brood.
Keeping them in the test tube for a while is a good idea. A lot of people are too eager to move them into fun enclosures when test tubes work just fine.

>>106188721
These all have a system that wicks water into the plaster surface and keeps it moist. I've never bought them either, but they all look pretty decent.

Honestly, I would recommend you just get an attachable outworld for your test tube and keep them like that for a while. It's the safest option cause you won't even have to move them.
They will sit around inside the nest in a little pile most of the time anyways. A small colony will only leave to eat.
Anonymous No.106189059
>>106189002
Thanks for the in-depth reply
>They need moisture to develop the brood.
The water tower in the picture isn't for watering (there's one for that on the other side) it's for moisture control, but it'd only wick/dissipate via the air of course, so it's probably not the same as a proper plaster/ytong nest. Just wondering if that's really needed, or if they'll be fine as-is.
>Honestly, I would recommend you just get an attachable outworld for your test tube and keep them like that for a while. It's the safest option cause you won't even have to move them.
The test tube I got them with doesn't have a spout to refill the water like the one you linked in that picture, so when that water is used up (or in case of serious mold issues) is my ETA for having to move them, my guess is that happens substantially earlier than them getting so many they need to move out.
The outworld combo you posted looks nice, but it's probably harder to properly shade it (wrapping the foil around the tubes) compared to the 3D printed ones.
I'd very much like to check on them occasionally without stressing them out too much, and the only way I can think of doing that is the red foil method.

Might order one of those small outworlds as well as a stopgap and then decide when it's time to move from the test tube because the water gets sparse or feeding gets troublesome.
Thanks anon!

>joining the ant stuff
Nice.
>How prone are they to over breeding and funky smell
I'm not the anon you asked (the anon who bought the big enclosure), but most animals self-regulate population size passively, and you can actively steer it via food amounts and space provided. My worms for example will reproduce until they reach a certain density, then stop laying eggs.
As for smell, most (all?) ant species have a graveyard/trashpile of sorts. They'll put stuff they don't want there, especially if it's something organic. If you clean that trash area, no smells should develop.
If not, you have dead insects in your enclosure so it'll start to smell.
>Can I get a mini Coliseum or are they mellow?
Not sure what you mean. Ants will need a nesting area (that's a tube at first, later then an actual nest) that should preferably be dark. Since ants can't see red light (with very few exceptions for some species) you can put a red filtering foil over the transparent part of a nest, so from the ants' pov they are in the dark, but you can still observe them. You can also remove the foil to see better, but light stresses them out, so don't do it too often. You'll want a small nest area that has a moisture gradient and a arena where you can offer food (which can get light). Also some baby powder/talcum powder or even ptfe coatings around the top area that you open to put stuff in to prevent them from crawling out as you feed them. If it has a mesh lid that's optional.

Naisu, thanks for the long reply. That's really interesting, I didn't know about the red light part. I have both talc and seeds on hand, Youtube often show ants fighting big food sources, having a mini coliseum sounds like a good pick me up on rainy days.

>seeds on hand
Just keep in mind that if you want seed gathering behavior, you need specific species for that. A more "generic" variety like Lasius niger for example won't care about seeds. They just need sugarwater and protein. Some of the seed gathering varieties are very cheap though, not quite as cheap as lasius niger but far from the prices of the more exotic varieties.

Got a couple of things just in post. Haven't tested anything, so I'll just describe what it is, and update later as I use those things.
Not pictured a pair of bike mudguards -- couldn't pick anything from SKS that would fit, so ended up getting some Enlee 820, will install them tomorrow.
>bike stuff
>grease gun
Feels sturdy and smooth. I hope it won't get much use, since I swear to never ever ever ever buy an old bike, so there are no loose or caged ball bearings anymore. But I can still use it on threads and axis.
>valve tool
I need to redo my tubeless setup, and the provided valve core remover is very small and I lose it all the time. It's a piece of machined metal, so I don't think it's going to fail on me.
>console stuff
>Xbox video cables
I was buying Saturn from local classifieds and the seller threw in the original Xbox for free, but no cables or pads. Got a couple of cables for it: composite, component, and HDMI adapter. Analog cables feel very thin and cheap, the HDMI one is much better. Should work fine for my purposes, if I really like the console I'll get a decent component cable elsewhere.
>Controller adapters
I had one just like N64 for the GameCube, it's fine. And one for PS2 just like the Saturn one, it's also fine. Makes almost any modern Bluetooth gamepad work with old consoles. Probably adds some latency, but I'm no hardcore nerd to notice that.
>Saturn flashcart
I'm not paying collector prices for games I'll play once if that. And just today the announced Fenrir Lite for almost the same price as this thing. Fuck.
>Saturn 12V PSU and USB C triggers
My Sega is Japanese, I'm europoor, 110-230V, you know the drill. Instead of getting a stepdown transformer, I'll just convert it to the Type C, as I do with most of my stuff. Having a PSU, a part that fails most often, as an external device is the way to go.

Titanium Zorro 912 with a 5-barrel hinge. Machined from a solid piece of titanium alloy. The best lighter in the world.
Add a red wick and red felt, replace the cotton with camel fur.
Now it's the top 1% of all lighters. Puts every Zippo to shame because unlike a Zippo, this thing has a lip and a rubber gasket that prevents the fuel from evaporating even when not in use. From having to refill every 4 days, to a refill every month.
Best thing I've ever bought from AliExpress.

The usual, ugreen, Anker, xiaomi, baseus.
If you're feeling a little more adventurous/willing to take a risk, then essager or maybe even toocki.
All of them will work, but cheaper ones won't be GaN (despite claiming it) and be less energy efficient. The bad ones get hot. Never had a housewfire hot one, but uncomfortably hot has happened.
You'll want a USB-C output ideally, the times if USB-A are over and it's not PD compatible. I have one with two outputs and that's perfect for travel. Wattage depends on the use case, if you're charging smaller devices (phone, watch, some tablets) over night, wattage barely matters 35W or so is plenty(for 2 outputs, for a single output even 15W is fine, but try to get 20 min). If you want to run high draw devices (soldering iron) or charge big devices quickly (laptop) then you'll need bigger chargers up to 70W single port output.
Pair with a C-to-C cable that supports PD (the support must be explicitly stated).
If you just charge overnight and want cheap, then some 15W USB-A charger will work and give ~10W per port max.

The (too?) big ant farm arrived.
It was super well packaged and building it was fun, though the video it comes with for assembly isn't great (a 360p max resolution youtube video in current year kek).
The big tower being covered in red filtering film is my DIY solution, it's clear the way it arrives, but I figured that'd let too much light in for where I plan to keep my ants and this way they have a bit more darkness (ants can't see red light).
The 3D printed parts have a bit large layer lines, probably to speed up printing, but all the tolerances are fine and nothing looks really bad. It feels well thought out overall, whoever designed it put in effort to think of various features. (I think the outarea and big tower is a normal part and the rest is aftermarket as that's where the 3D printed stuff slots in.
Features:
- Large nest tower with automatically replenishing moisture via a sponge strip inside and a large reservoir for water.
- The large tower is separated into 3 section with slots for dividers to unlock parts of the nest.
- Large rectangular outworld, held together with rubber bands, I'll add some silicone to make sure it's escape proof, but probably fine even without.
- Trash area with quick release and a quickly removable lid, if (big if) I can get them to use that area for trash it'll be amazing to clean.
- Water feeder with medium size reservoir.
- Small nest tower consisting of stairs and 5 small chambers with a cotton strip and small water reservoir; so also has a moisture gradient from top to bottom. This cotton strip is directly accessible, so ants can drink from it safely too.
- 2 connection tubes between the towers, both can be closed off individually with dividers
- In-line small area in one of the tubes you can drop food into without needing to do so in the big outworld with slide open lid.
- Small lid on top of outworld that's easy to take off.
- Connector hole if you want to connect outworld to more/other habitats.

(cont due to letter limit)
Overall it's a great and well thought out product, definitely feels worth the 20€ I paid. It lacks ytong or some other more porous material for moisture control of course, but I'll see if they live in it fine without that or if they need it.

As for my plans:
- Add some red film to the small nest too same as the big one
- Leave the current queen in her tube she was shipped in either until her water runs out (that tube can't be refilled) or she has 10-15 workers
- While this is happening (probably ~2 weeks until that's the case, the queen has laid eggs, but they aren't pupae yet) I'll add silicone sealant to the outworld to make double sure and let that dry without any ants inside.
- Then put the tube into the outworld, with the opening towards the nest I want them to use first, keep the other nest plugged.

I've been tempted to let them use the large nest first because of the larger water reservoir and more interesting chambers, but that sponge strip isn't directly accessible, so while it does give moisture they can't drink from it, so the small nest is probably smarter. There they can drink directly. I'll have to see if they can find the way to the waterer in the outworld for sugar water or if that's too big, in which case I'll have to use the inline tube feeding area.
When (if?) the ants move into the enclosure I'll post again with some pictures.

I'll give it a try without buying a smaller nest in addition to this one, if it goes wrong I can still buy a small nest to try out with a new queen. The small nest is probably about the size of the small nests sold on ali anyways.

>smart phone which needs to have (1) high battery capacity — I don't care about slimness or aesthetic form factor, functionality is more important for me, so please big battery; (2) expandable storage (I'm gonna get my NAS arrangement figured out so I can archive my data off my phone regularly, but still better to have this option anyways); (3) easily replaceable battery; (4) good tech in the phone like recent ai innovations and a good camera; (5) headphone jack would be nice

Samsung and LG make 3500mAh 18650's, you can find these at reputable local electronics store since they're used in everything, from DIY projects to laptop batteries. They're rechargeable so it's not like you have to have them available at every corner store after they go dead. If you don't want to buy a separate charger just for your flashlight then get a Sofirn with USB-C charging, though a good 18650 charger is also a good Eneloop charger so it's worth having one. That's how I got mine, first for Eneloops, then got used for 18650's. And if you do end up getting extra 18650's, get a container for them for storage. Huh, got a suggestion for a similar Zippo clone, but something within cheap Zippo price, and perhaps a bit smaller? Or a sturdy propane one? I'd like to have an EDC fluid lighter but I always avoided Zippos due to them always evaporating, and usually the propane ones like to stop lighting up, though a flint Clipper I've been carrying hasn't been failing so far.

I've gotten a Convoy S2+ since I already has a Nitecore charger so all that I had to do was get some cells. Now that I switched to a Sofirn SC31 Pro I just reused the same LG cell and I like it more. It has a nicer profile, I've put a magnet cap on it, and Anduril is very handy. Some Convoy models do have a charging port but if you want a more convenient product then Sofirn is definitely the way to go.

Arduino is open hardware, meaning the schematics are freely available. As a result, chink clones are practically identical to genuine ones (the genuine ones have some silver marking but that's just aesthetics).
So yeah, they can do the same as a genuine one, but cost a lot less.
That being said, arduino uno clones (the one you posted) are a bit outdated at this point, the only upside they really have is that they have the female headers which makes it easier for prototyping when you're an absolute beginner.
Instead you can get arduino nano clones, which are smaller, cheaper, use usb-c or micro-usb and have the same power. A compromise you can make is buy a cheap uno clone for prototyping and if you ever want to make a project out of it that's more permanent, use a micro clone instead. The code transfers 1:1.
The other anon >>106208956 who mentioned esp means esp32 based boards, which use a different chipset. As a beginner, they work basically the same, just one different setting in the programming software, except esp32s are usually higher powered. Doesn't matter for most applications, but for those it does matter it's a big difference.
More importantly, if you look up "esp8266" you find boards that have a built-in wifi antenna and support for it, which is really nice if you want any IOT functionality, with an arduino it has to either be a connected input device, or sending data via serial port.
If you just want to get one, get a esp8266 board and be done with it. If you like the easier headers on the uno, get a cheap clone. (Picrel is not the cheapest option, but gives streetcred)
As for other things you'll want to order with it, so you can actually do some prototyping:
A breadboard, male-male (not optional) and male-female (optional) jumper wires are a must.
Stuff that you don't need, but probably won't regret having:
multimeter, soldering iron, wire strippers, spare wire, push buttons
The rest depends on the projects/things you want to build.

I don't know shit about these, but I do watch videos of people removing wasp nests sometimes, and those that wear suits seem to get stung occasionally still, even through them. I'm assuming that professional content creators in that space would get whatever is best, so if even those don't guarantee safety, I'd assume you can get a sting through some ali clone too. Probably best to ask in some beekeeping community. Sadly a quick look in the usual suspects (/an/ and /out/) didn't return any active threads.
I know that people sometimes talk about it in /hgm/ over on /out/ though. >>>/out/2832316

Running off a powerbank seems retarded, because you need to refill it anyways. If you have a non-constant power source like solar and want to use them as a buffer, a powerbank is probably not optimal. DIY is doable, but a pain in the ass and 18650 cells are expensive these days. Barely worth it.
The main issue is that a lot of the less renowned sellers lie regarding capacity. Always a cointoss if it's real or fake. Your call if you want to take that risk or not.

Also ordered 34 A6 notebooks (10 with prints on them).
I've bought the same notebooks before (not same listing, but same type) and am running out, so I wanted to refill. They're great as a mini notebook for quick thoughts and similar stuff. 47 pages total, small and thin enough that they fit in your trouser pocket as EDC if you want, and are easy to store away. I use them to write down random things and ideas I come up with so I don't forget. Also I use them for notes on random stuff.
Currently I've filled about the first 35 pages with notes for blue prince (the game) and am at notebook 4 or something for random ideas noted down. Would recommend.

Decided to order a few things from Bundle Deals again. Extra tips for my Pinecil for finer and rougher work, a USB-C power meter that seems to have good reviews, Mechanic tweezers which also seem solid, way more than the cheapo ones I have right now, a solder sucker that should be more solid than what I have, and a little high precision scale that according to the reviews was good for the price.

I also just realized that I got chinked and the coin holder insert for my card holder didn't get ordered, even though I remember having it in the Bundle basket. Guess I'll have to order it separately.

I'm not sure how accurate that jewelry scale is for actual drug dealing, but I have used it to dose out aroma oils and chemicals while cooking before and it's at least reasonably close as the results usually taste good, so good choice on that. If that solder remover sucks ass consider getting one that has a built-in heater in the future.
>I also just realized that I got chinked and the coin holder insert for my card holder didn't get ordered
If you had it in your cart for long it's possible it went out of stock in-between you adding it and you paying, though usually that should come with the item being greyed out and some text explaining that.

And yeah it's possible it went out of stock, I ended up ordering the last in stock from another seller for a tad bit more, and I ended up paying more for it than for the card holder itself cuz no free shipping and no Bundle and all, but w/e. As long as I get my coin tray.

>emotorcycle with a bike fork
That's concerning.
Regarding the fork, I (a different anon) have some experience with them. They're filling a "we want to cut every corner on our bike, yet don't want our customers to die" niche: solid, reliable, but don't offer much more than that: no precise (or often any but the most basic preload) adjustments, preload doesn't work that great, lockout doesn't work that great, it doesn't really work on small bumps, and usually has nowhere near the advertised travel. On the other hand they're usually pretty stiff, which you would want for a heavy bike. One thing to keep in mind is that XCR comes in 32 and 34mm stanchions, and for a motorcycle I wouldn't want anything below 34, better 36 or 40mm. But 36 and 40 are expensive even from SR Suntour.
Also post bike.

Without looking anything up for that laptop:
A sub-par battery life, bad keyboard and touchpad, a lot of bloat. Also not super large computing power but that's to be expected.
>I am going to wipe Windows 11 and rice up a Linux distro on it.
That'll fix the bloat and improve the battery issue as well as work better with the given computing power, so great choice.
Look if the screen has too much glare, and if it does consider getting some of that anti-glare foil (no idea if that works well). The keyboard likely won't be horrific, just not enjoyable, so just gotta live with that. A cheap 2$ bluetooth mouse from bundles will fix the touchpad issue.
If your expectations are realistic, it can probably be an enjoyable laptop to use. Leave us a small review when it arrives.
