i remember a few years ago when dwm was receiving the same hype, but at least dwm was made by people who pander to autistic chuds who want to feel special, so the popularity was understandable. but hyprland? how it differs from other tiling wms? what's so special about it?

hyprland is easy to rice and it's one of the few wayland compositors that have neat protocols and plugins. vaxry (the main dev) made his own tools and protocols to not work with bikeshedding faggots. this made freedesktop/ibm seethe so much they banned him from their circles. soidevs are so petty they always try to talk shit about vaxry every time they can for some reason.

anyways, hyprland differs a lot from other tiling wms by being that. it's bloated (for good), easily customizable and one of the most functional compositors out there if you want to use wayland.

99% of the time you can't explain hype.
for one successful side-project there are thousands that never get popular, it's just luck and nothing else.
it's not faster, not smaller, not better coded, the dev is a clueless student, it attracks pedophiles and make trannies seethe, there is absolutely nothing special about it but it is what it is, don't read too much into it, the hype will fade away and some other random project will get the spotlight for no reason either.
