I don't think Mark is sincere about anything and there's no evidence that he ever has been sincere about anything. He isn't a Steve Jobs, he has no creativity and no concern for quality. He unironically believes money buys results with no other input or control required. And he also implicitly believes in "Worse Is Better" because all of his projects stagnant as soon as they reach a baseline of "good enough", and never improve or grow beyond that unless it's to copy a feature a competitor has offered that went viral.

You take his money but at what cost? You can't win here, because he has never won anything on his own except for FaceBook, which has contemporaneously lost. And what will you do when he turns to you after you all inevitably fail?

Imo og horizon worlds was made for standalone vr headsets like the quest 3. Graphics are definitely getting better with the quest 3 being able to handle more demanding games but the hardware just wasn't there in the past.
On the other hand horizon world graphics haven't really improved since the success of the quest 3/3s last year. They're probably waiting for horizon devs to do their own thing but imo they should be setting an example by making a AAA game in horizon worlds ob their own with that 50B they invested.

I don't think it was like that. Mark was trying to poach him from what he was currently doing, and was rejected on principle at first. But doubling an already massive sum would just seem silly to refuse if there weren't any concerns you had other than you'd have to leave your current position you believe in---so might as well at that point, if he wants you that badly.
