I use mine as a home theater PC, mostly streaming from websites, VLC, or other streaming services. I can play light duty casual games on it, and stream just about any game from my gaming PC in the other room via Steam.
They're often designed to be mounted to a VESA mount and attached to the back of a computer monitor. You can basically get a computer on a desk in the footprint of the monitor for either small spaces or a minimalist look.
They don't have a ton of horsepower for actual "work" but if you're using it like you'd use a laptop, its the smarter choice for more power per dollar over a laptop. Same hardware, no keyboard, case, battery, screen, audio, etc. They're a bit niche, but they have more power than N100 or most of the tiny blade workstation PCs like this

Those are more oriented toward office drones that open a browser and a spreadsheet for 10 hours a day but have some capabilities of the lower end miniPCs.
