Which headphones?
I've seen those new Yamaha Zutomayo HPH-MT8Z and I've been wondering if monitoring professional headphones like this one is preferable over regular music headphones like the Tago Studio T3-01 or some sennheisers.

I'm a gaymer and listen to Jpop, hip hop, soul, city pop and sometimes jazz, what should I buy?

get what you want, who fucking cares?
your ears and brain will get used to the sound and subconsciously fill in any frequencies you think are missing.
getting a studio monitor if you're not gonna be producing music is retarded though. you're retarded. go fucking kill yourself

Those closed-back Yammies are okay oheadphones, better to go for some serious Beyerdynamic like DT770pro or DT1770pro instead.
Better bang for your buck.

The purpose of studio headphones is to isolate from noise. They are for listening to one instrument/voice at a time, not for making, let alone listening, to music.
>>106203085
Studio monitors on the other hand ARE made for making and listening to music. Completely different.

>The purpose of studio headphones is to isolate from noise. They are for listening to one instrument/voice at a time, not for making, let alone listening, to music
And why exactly would they be bad for making or listening to music?

Because closed-back headphones dramatically change their sound from position/pad wear. Can't produce on something different to everyone, and even to you over time. Open-back headphones are better in this regard but there are still exceptions, hd600 can change its sound by 10dB from pad wear.

Don't worry, I'll bump this so you can come up with a reason as to why a linear frequency response is a bad thing.

Headphones don't have any consistent frequency response, let alone a linear one.

Damn, horrible timing.
Anyways, your point does not stand and using such headphones is perfectly fine.
To be fair, this has been a cause for drama since at least the 70's last millennium.

Let's take THE studio headphone, dt770. This is the spread you get just by buying it. Then you add 10dB positional variation on top of that. Then you add 10dB variation from pad wear on top of that. The result is completely random. You can produce on this - if you don't give a shit. Or if you EQ by ear to speakers in front of you and keep pads fresh and always wear them in the same position.

Now I buy some gamer headphones for the same price.
How does it turn out to be preferable to this?
... I'm actually not much invested into our conversation, we can stop this at an time.

Haha, yeah.
If you produce music or anything else audio, you'll have to listen to it on the most terrible audio hardware too.
It has to sound good on a phone with its volume turned up to 11/10.
Personally, making music is a hobby of mine. Then when I link my music to people that I personally know, they'll play it on their phones to show it to other people. To me it feels l like a physical assault, playing it on a tiny speaker that hardly can do anything.

However, not a problem for most people I would guess.

Studio monitors aren't expected to provide tonal fidelity. They're for monitoring while sounds are being recorded. Headphones for mixing are expensive, and you have to be an expert with good speakers to make them work. Normal people shouldn't care what studios use at all. Their use case is not the same.

I disagree.
I actually mixed whole songs just on a pair of headphones.
In the end it all turned out fine.

No one ever said a bad thing about it.
Which makes it seem like you enjoy projecting that you are a terrible person.

Assuming you auditioned it with more people than your mom and therapist.

Which is a huge ass.

At least 1 in 10 of them are thinking you're the exact kind of queer to mix on headphones and won't say anything because they don't want to deal with your reaction.

I'm not the bad person for pointing this out. I'm saying what any critical listener is thinking but doesn't care enough to tell you.

Weird that my 702s are capable of doing just that, except with a neutral frequency response.

Over ear headphones. Should've been more specific. Other types of headphones tend to be worse overall.

The only thing worse than over ear headphones is on-ear headphones.
